Foster Article in Tennessean (Merged)

I'd like to see more of all the above, especially Moore, but I don't expect anyone to be Jason Witten. What is going on with Paige? We get so few snaps, it's hard for anyone to get PT.

I think he's fast as lightning but can't learn the plays, run routes well, or catch consistently. I heard that months ago. Not sure if it's still the case.

Wow... that's bad. I thought we only had 50 plays for the offense and only one involved a deep route.:)

Come on, KPT. You are so pro-Foster it's a little unbecoming for a man of your wisdom, otherwise.

I'm with KPT on this one. It's not about being for Foster, but being against change simply for change sake. I just don't believe in begging for RB's that haven't proven themselves to be named the starter when you have an experienced back with an excellent YPC average. Creer has fumbling problems in his limited time and Hardesty never proved he could be the main back when he had the chance.

What is it with us and burners that have no clue how to run a route? It seems like we have at least 1 guy every year running sub 4.5 that can't figure out a route tree and how to make a couple of reads.

Two words........Leonard Scott

That sounds like a coaching issue. We should have an awesome recievers coach... being 'WR U' and all. That's one reason I liked the talk about Kippy in the off season.

Just in case Paige is spending his time here...

Please see diagram below.

The Passing Tree is the number system used for the passing routes. All routes are the same for the X, Y, and Z-receivers. The route assignments depends on the coaching preference. This system uses has all EVEN number routes towards the center of the field, while ODD number routes are towards the sidelines. Below are the routes used in this playbook:

ROUTE NAMES:

#1 - Quick Out. Drive out 5 yards then 90 degrees and drift to sidelines.

#3 - Deep Out. Drive out 10 yards then 90 degrees and drift to sidelines.

#5 - Flag Route. Drive out 8 yards, show hand fake and look back at QB, then sprint to deep flag. (out route)

#7 - Shoot Route (Chair Route) Sprint up to 4 or 5 yards then 45 degrees (or 90 degrees) for 2 strides then straight up the field. DO NOT drift to the middle of the field!

#9 - Streak Route (Fly Route) Can be a straight sprint "go" route off the line of scrimmage or can be incoporated with a one stride 45 degree "chair" after 8-10 yards. See Shoot Route above.

#8 - Post Route. Drive out 8 yards, show hand fake and look back at QB, then sprint to deep post.(in route) Opposite of Flag Route above.

#6 - Curl Route. Drive out 12 yards, slow and gather yourself, curl in towards QB, establish a wide stance and frame yourself. Find an open or void area.

#4 - Drag Route. Drive out 3 strides then drag on a 45 degree (or 90) angle to the opposite tackle.

#2 - Slant Route. Drive out 3 strides then slant 45 degrees. This is a timing route, Expect the ball immediatley!

#0 - Quick Hitch Route. Drive out two strides then come back to QB on a 45, establish a wide stance and frame yourself.

utmba I see nothing for Tebow?

His job is to do the running version of 5, 8, 9. At least that's what he did last year when the UF offense was working. This year, who knows? They're trying to get him to play like a QB.:)

There are more than 10 routes in our playbook. There are also hot reads and choice routes where the receiver and QB must make the same read.

I dont know whether to think he is very intelligent and has a strangely smart sense of humor, or just the other way around. This is literally the strangest thing ive ever heard a UT football player say. But it does make sense, Pterodactyls have small arms and would therefore be prone to fumble.

They are also not very swift on foot....

So would Reggie Cobb and Chuck Webb . . . but that's the crazy thing about becoming the all time rushing leader. To get yards a RB has to get carries. To get carries a RB has to actually be on the field.

I do not disagree with you. Our talent pool sucks and foster has benefited from that. He may eventually be the all time leading rusher. Is he one of the 10 best RB's this school has had. Not at all.

We had better backs than Foster that had to split carries in the past due to a better talent pool and depth.

Foster speaks:

Foster speaks out on Vols' problems | www.tennessean.com | The Tennessean

"We've had a lot of good practices. We've just got to take the practice play to the game," Foster said. "Last week was one of the best Tuesday practices I've ever seen here."

Foster, who is sixth in the SEC in rushing (67.6 yards a game), said that the outstanding practices aren't translating into game-time execution.

"We've just got to jell as a team," he said. "There's no excuse for it. We've just got to go out there and not make mistakes. We're human. Every now and then a human will make a mistake."

While it seems Foster — who has had problems with fumbles at inopportune times — hardly has been in a jovial mood, he said that's a false perception.

"I'm fine," he said. "That's about all I can say. Football is football and you're going to have a roller-coaster ride. You're going to have your ups and downs. I smile through it all — that's me."

The bold part is good to hear.
