UT back's silence mirrors team struggles | www.tennessean.com | The Tennessean

Practice had just ended last week. The Tennessee starting tailback, a senior on the verge of becoming UT's all-time leading rusher, was requested for media interviews.

He had a demand: whoever interviewed him had to speak Pterodactyl, some made-up dinosaur language. No interview was conducted.

It was kind of funny and it fit Foster's quirky personality. But considering the environment and Foster's recent demeanor, it quickly became sad.

The reason is because 10 yards away, Coach Phillip Fulmer was addressing reporters about his quarterback crisis. Fulmer discussed how starter Jonathan Crompton and backup Nick Stephens would duke it out for the starting job against Northern Illinois.

It was a national story about an offense looking for leadership.

It could determine the fate of Tennessee's season and Fulmer's legacy.

"Veeeeek! Veeeeek! Veeeeek!" Foster shrieked.

Forgive me if this has already been posted. I don't get this guy.

I'm sure Foster feels like he is getting a bad rap from the media. Media and fans have labeled him as a back that fumbles a lot....and rightfully so. I'm guessing he is mad at the fans and the media and doesn't want to talk.

Foster has done the right thing by not talking to the media. The up coming SEC stretch he needs to play great (that's no secret) and not give the media any reason to keep thinking he is cursed.

Why are people even talking about Foster, he has done nothing but cost us wins. It's a shame that he is gonna be our all time leading rusher. He is by no stretch of the imagination in the top 10 best running backs in Tennessee History.

I'm much more concerned with him getting tackled from behind while he's deciding if wants to dance up to line or head for the sideline. This happened multiple time at the NIU game.

He really did shriek.

And when your team is 1-3 (as it was at the time) and your chance at getting the rushing title is quickly becoming in jeopardy, there is no reason to screw around like this.

The guy is struggling and yet he acts like a dinosaur. I am quickly losing respect for him, and I have always liked the guy.

Honestly, on the chart of things I dislike about this season, Arian's personality around reporters doesn't even make the page.

He once refused an interview with the Chatt. Times Free Press's Wes Ruucker, 'cause he said they were liars..."What are you talkin' about Arian?".... "That paper ain't free man, you gotta pay for it."...
