Former Vol opening up about Pruitt and shooting

I agree with you...I just think it is pretty spineless of our local sports journalists.

Yeah. Unfortunately as well, I think it's an industry wide problem. Unless they are long-form investigatory types, most of them are dependent on the scraps those in positions of authority/power will feed them. So few have the cultural cache to write in-depth exposees and not end up without a job.

Glad to see AtoZ is on the job. But, somebody wrote a whole article about this earlier this year with like lots of paragraphs and quotes and other journalist stuff.

I actually remember this well, and totally forgot about it because it vanished from the headlines so quickly. everything happened as was stated as far as I remember.

“The bar’s owner and the doorman working that night maintain that Davis was never inside the bar and that the shooting didn’t occur there. The bar does not have security cameras.”

This is what police have to deal with…

Davis is a tough kid - gets shot and has to be told he was shot…
You ever been shot?

What I hate was the end of that article where Zach Ragan tells us about how there were all of these toxic stories about Pruitt. We hear this after every firing cycle about how toxic the environment was under the previous coach. But these journalists are never able to break the toxic stories while the coach is still there inflicting harm to the program.
What was the story with the Drae Bowles kid years ago? A friend of his said she was assaulted by another player, he brought it to light then had to transfer out bc of it if I remember correctly.

Yea, that was the A.J. Johnson case…he was found not guilty. Drae was thrown under the bus I believe by Butch Jones…buts it’s hard to know what really happened - plenty of he said/she said.

Yeah. Not saying AJ was guilty but what are you supposed to do there in Bowles case? You almost have to report that to the police.

What has become clearer and clearer over the last year is how vile a person Jeremy Pruitt appears to have been. Toxic to his staff - and, apparently, to his players as well. I didn’t have the wit to see it at the time, but this guy was a downgrade from Jones AND Dooley. THAT was once impossible to imagine.

The side effect of this realization is the accompanying conclusion that Phil Fulmer was truly inept as an AD. I usually take it easy on Phil because I think he genuinely loves Tennessee. However, he brought in Pruitt (admittedly not under the best of circumstances), and if memory serves, Fulmer was ready to extend Pruitt right before all the wheels came off. I don’t know if Fulmer had any knowledge of the recruiting payments, but the fact it happened so blatantly on his watch puts a black mark on him that ain’t going away any time soon.

The recent few years have been a true nadir for our program, falling below previous levels under Jones that I thought were unsurpassable in their ineptitude.

I really hope Josh Heupel us as good a coach as he seems . . . and that he is a much better recruiter than he currently appears.

Not impossible, since there were many here at the time who questioned the wisdom of the hire.

The girls reported it to the police but evidently Bowles was sympathetic to their case - I think one of the girls involved was his girlfriend but that’s just part of the huge rumor mill that surrounded that whole case. But regardless, Bowles was isolated from the team and (again) rumor had it that coach Jones encouraged retaliation.

Just a bad situation, we had no coaching leadership at that time

Am I the only one who thinks this story sounds fishy?

A firearm is discharged inside a bar on the strip, a place that would presumably have employees and other patrons present. Police would have had to investigate. A false story was allowed to be released and the person who actually pulled the trigger was never identified?
It's a ******** story by men gossiping like women.

Don't forget to give the anointed one (Fulmer) all the credit for hiring Pruitt--yep the good ole boy network at its best!

I don't recall the players name but he shot himself in the leg is my best recall.

I don’t think a teammate shot him. KPD and UTPD wouldn’t have covered up something like that. He would flat out say who did it at this point if it were true, because he could make bunch of money in a lawsuit if what he claims was fact.
