I'd just like to put out to the Vol Nation that former Vol Arron Sears was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and it's being reported that he may never play again due to a neurological condition caused by a concussion. Apparently, Sears is suffering from depression due to this as well. Hopefully he recovers in the best way possible and everyone puts him in their thoughts and prayers! GO VOLS!

My prayers go out to you, young man. Keep your head up and know that God might have a more important job for you to do. Good luck and best wishes!

After watching that Ricky Williams thing, I do think more now about what these guys will do after football. He's got a long life left to live. I hope he gets everything figured out soon.
I sport a bracelet that reads, "TBI Awareness" for Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness. I wear it for my sister-in-law who is the young lady who was recently run over on Pellissippi Pkwy (and the driver ran away from the scene on foot)...but now I'll consider Aaron's future too. He was a heck of a player.

I'm good friends with a guy I used to work with whose daughter is good friends with Aaron. They went to school @ Russelville Al. together. I was unaware of this situation due to being laid off and away from my friend for a few months. I'll try and get some info on Aaron's condition and relay it to VN. Best wishes go out and prayers for Aaron in the meantime. Heck of a player and individual...........Commish

Best wishes to Arron. Sadly, this is way more common than most of us realize. I have a relative who played OL for 10 years in the NFL, and he is battling some severe depression issues as well.

I've heard about his depression/mental health issues, but had not heard that it was related to a concussion. I thought it was more general in nature. I don't think he even played last year because of the condition, did he? When healthy he is a good player.

From a TB site:

Pewter Report said:
Sears, a second-round draft choice in 2007, was the team's starting left guard during the 2007-08 season. He went AWOL from the team after the team's first mini-camp in April of 2009 due to what the team called "personal problems." Sears, who is believed to have some mental health issues, did return to the team on November 17, but was overweight and out of shape. He spent the entire season on the Non-Football Illness List.

Sears was working out and lifting weights as early as March, 2010, but the team was not confident that his personal problems were behind him and decided to part ways with him, fearing that his NFL playing days might be over.

With regard to Sears, if he is still suffering from some kind of mental or emotional ailment as everyone suspects, this is the best thing for him. You can’t mess with that stuff — especially in a profession like football where you get your head rattled around daily. Good luck to a great Volunteer in his future endeavors.

Not sure if the author is a UT fan or what.

I would hate to hear about this happening to anyone VOL or not. I hope this young man finds help, this is nothing to play around with.

I hope that whatever the issue is, he is able to get the help he needs. As others have stated, he is a very nice person. He is one of the nicest Vols I have ever met.

This man had 44 starts for the vols between 03-06 and was a team captain! He is all vol and gave us some of our favorite memories as fans. Thanks Aaron and God speed in your recovery!

I doubt many fans think about what the players are putting on the line when they take the field, regardless of what position or level of play. I for one forget far too often.

Prayers for this player and his family.

Pewter Report is the number one Tampa Bay Bucs fan publication. The owner is not affiliated with the club. He is always on Talk Radio and I would trust most of what is reported in the publication.

I've posted this story b4 in the pub, but in Tuscaloosa this year(oct09), the hotel double-booked our room. Long story short, ASears and 2 friends had been assigned to our room, it was classic. He was really cool too. (May have had something to do with ...well nevermind) (cough-cough, Aaron)

I was referring to bucstats.com, not Pewter Report.
