Doug Matthews had Kippy Brown as a guest on Big Orange Sunday yesterday. Brown, who was in Seattle as a WR coach when the organization drafted Russell Wilson, said Dobbs has the potential to develop into a franchise QB in the NFL. He really liked Dobbs' potential in the NFL once he doesn't have to worry about school anymore and can focus on football 24/7. He compared Dobbs favorably to Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott. He said that Dobbs has the potential to develop into a star at the next level like them. He also said Dobbs will be drafted in the late 3rd round of the NFL Draft (similar to where Russell Wilson was taken).

Note this is a guy who has been in NFL Draft war rooms before. He's not some internet blogger who makes mock drafts. He's been part of the decision-making process when it comes to drafting players into the NFL. And in particular he's been part of the Seattle Seahawks organization. A team that has been the gold standard when it comes to drafting players the last 6 years or so. His evaluation of Dobbs in this regard carries a lot of weight IMO.

You can listen to the entire interview here (starts around the 47:35 minute mark): https://player.fm/series/zone-podcasts-106317/big-orange-sunday-11-20-16

Josh Dobb's will develop the "Smart Football" that can follow a non-linear path and always find it's receiver, even around corners (or safeties).

Guess you know better than NFL scouts. Maybe you should let the teams that that want to draft Dobbs in the 3rd round know this.

Are you saying NFL scouts are never wrong? Look at Dak and Russel in college. Dak took Mississippi State to #1 in the country for a few weeks. Mississippi State was never relevant before Dak. Russel is able to make every throw in the game which the same can not be said for Dobbs. Take off the orange goggles and realize this.

EVERY story is going to become a Dak told you so. Even tho the OP himself downplayed Dak when comparing Dobbs to him at same points of career. Guess the Cowboy scouts didn't listen when they took a fourth round flyer. :)

I'd rather see JD follow his trade. Stay out of the NFL, stay healthy and make a name for himself in aerospace. He needs to concentrate on that rather than football.

I've been wondering if the guy could play receiver at the next level. He is dangerous in the open field and probably has great hands.

Hell, Seattle's starting left tackle George Fant hadn't played any football since 8 grade. Unless you want to count a few special teams plays as a 5th year senior at Westeren Kentucky where he played for years of basketball.

If the talent is there the scouts will find it and the league will put you in the right position to be successful.

Just thinking out loud.

A WR position coach and VFL may be biased.

Here's a more realistic assessment from July

https://www.seccountry.com/tennesse...h-on-josh-dobbs-passing-ability-at-this-stage

Phil Savage. “The fact is that he is an outstanding dual-threat college quarterback,” said Savage, a former Bill Belichick assistant who went on to become director of college scouting for the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens and general manager of the Cleveland Browns.

"“Josh certainly has the intellect, he’s got the character, he’s got a lot of things that are positives, but I do think that the NFL scouts will say, ‘OK, we’ve got to take a bit of a leap of faith in terms of what we think he can become as a passer,’” Savage said. “He reminds me a bit of Dak Prescott, but probably not as advanced of a passer at this stage."

"I saw Josh down at the Manning Academy a few weeks ago, and he threw the ball well there, I wouldn’t say it was just over-the-top impressive,” Savage said. “He has one year, one season, to continue to prove what he needs to prove, and he’s going to be evaluated.”

Truth, NFL scouts are never wrong. I mean, they all knew Kurt Warner and Tom Brady would be great NFL qbs, they all knew Jamarcus Russell Vince Young wouldn't. Just a few examples of how infallible they are.

Being compared to Dak Prescott is not a bad thing.

The kid is the leading candidate to be NFL MVP as a rookie. :thud:

I think Dobbs is more talented than Dak. We'll have to see what happens when Dobbs gets to the NFL. If Dak can do what he's doing right now, I think Dobbs will be able to do the same if not more. He's the more physically gifted player.

Correct me if I am wrong but has Dobbs even declared for the NFL? Has anyone ever heard him mention playing in the NFL?

He doesn't have to declare for the NFL since his eligibility will be up. When you draft someone that really only means you have the rights to that player for one year. If the player chooses not to play in the NFL that is their decision.
