Former Players call for Dooley's Departure

Actually, the implication is that it does.

Motive of the speaker is the key to assessing the validity of any statement.

They're right that UT should win more games. The only point of contention is how to effect that sooner rather than later.

Seeing the 180 in expectations this board took over the last eight weeks has been really entertaining. The fan and media reaction has been at least as compelling as the actual football. Seeing a couple former players weigh in only adds to the surreal scenario.

Chief Chavis even pointed out the supreme fickleness of our fan base. I have to think that will play a factor in the coaching search and its eventual result.

If Chuckie is in the conversation for real, you have to think he included the Legion of the Miserable on the "con" side of the sheet, next to "cult like fan support" in the "pro" column.

It would be so ironic if it actually resulted in Dooley keeping his job.

UT won't win more games with Dooley here. Mark it down, take it to the bank, do whatever you want with it. He has done absolutely nothing to make me think that we would achieve any better results next season under him.. or the season after that, or the season after that, etc.

I can't speak for everyone, but I am not a fickle fan. I'm a devoted fan and I care. I want what is best for the program. Don't get me wrong, I was all aboard the Dooley train. I was all for rallying behind him and giving this unproven coach some time. I believed that he could do it, I really wanted him to succeed, I really did. I still wish he coulda succeeded. He is a great guy, I got nothing but mad respect for him, but unfortunately that does not make him a great coach.

But another season with no substantial wins, not much signs of improvement on the field.. I appreciate Dools being the only guy with the balls to accept the job that he did, and him cleaning up the mess that Kiffin left, but it's time for him to go. We will do nothing but stumble around in mediocrity with Dooley.

Did you, along with the majority of this board, expect 7-8 wins this season?

I will readily admit my expectations got a bit unrealistic after NC State.

The lack of big wins is disappointing. I've been so thirsty since 2007 (hell, 2001) for that.

Not much improvement? Really? Looks to me like this team grew a pair in the offseason. Same team last year was in the process of rolling over like a beached whale. This team may do the same, but I just don't think so.

I keep coming back to an extension of the old Bill Parcells bit about the coach as chef; "If you hire a chef to cook the meal, at least you should let him shop for the groceries". I keep hearing reading where "Dooley set the table well for the next guy" and " he stabilized the program", etc.

It seems a real shame to wait all this time and watch Dools put in all this work in the kitchen, to see the team go through all these growing pains, just to see the administration and fan base say "eff it, let's just order some Pizza Hut".

I'm certain I am more Zen than 99.9% of the fanbase, and some sizzle-chest will flame me for this. Still, I just get the sense the man knows what he is doing; plodding methodically along the trail despite the s**tstorm, pushing cotton bales to Chalmette. The amazing thing at this point, is that neither team nor staff is quitting; they keep getting back up; they keep giving their all for Tennessee.

Fellas, I just can't hate on that kind of dedication. That's what being a Volunteer is all about.

If I had the coin, I'd be there every weekend... especially in Nashville.

No rational person on here expected us to win the east or beat Alabama. However great coaches find ways to win against teams they're not supposed to once in a while and in 3 years dooley has not manage to do that at all. What part of 0-whatever it is against ranked opponents do you not understand? For whatever reason Dooley cannot motivate these players to elevate their performance on the field to a level that translates into wins. Is it all his fault? No but it's 100% his responsibility. The guy is just not a winner! Have we made progress in some areas? Sure but we've also regressed in others. Relentless pursuit of continuous improvement is fine but the improvements cannot be so damn microscopic. At SOME point there has to be clear tangible evidence that this program is moving forward. Unfortunately this season looks just like Dooley's first 2 seasons.

Regardless of motive, Ainge and Swain are spot on with what they say.

The irony would be delicious. May have a mass suicide. Hopefully anyway.

****! I'd GLADLY take years 1, 3 , & 4 of the Ainge and Swain era! 3 winning seasons, one 10 win season, 2 SEC east titles, 2 bowl victories. That looks pretty damn good to me right now!

No championships. No titles. Florida & Bama were down. Those same seasons are now affectionately known as the "decline". Nice try though.

Yeah when certain teams are down, others are up. Funny how that works out. Right now we're on the other end of that spectrum. The 04-07 era looks pretty darn good to me right now. I don't care who was down.

Ohh the dreaded SEC east title. We should pass out a ring for those. And a special pick-6 trophy for Ainge in memory of the 2007 title game. Made out of pewter.

Yeah you're right. Not like we were playing the #1 team in the country that day or anything, oh wait! Give me a damn break! As for the east titles, sure I would've liked to see us do more but you're telling me you wouldn't take that right now over the $hit sandwich we've had to eat the last 5 years?

We were beating them. Until dopeboy threw it away. Not once, but twice in the 4th quarter. That was a program killer. We never recovered.

Ainge might not of been an all American but he would passed for over 400 yards and infinity amount of touchdowns over this garbage defense Dooley and sal have trotted out on the field this year.

That and $5.00 an hour will get you an immigrant housekeeper. Enjoy.

He has the only show worth listening to in Knoxville. You must be a Hyams listener.
Hyams is on Nashville radio this morning stating that he does not believe Dooley will be the coach at UTK next year, but he does expect Dooley to coach the Troy game this Sat.

Ainge is spot on. If when your rebuilding, you have to have that unexpected W ever now and then to keep the program progressing.
