Had a former football player murdered in his home early this morning. (8/4/11). No arrests yet. He was only 24. Please remember his family. Thanks.

anyone know who it was? if he was 24, he played here pretty recently. God be with his family as they mourn their loss.

Sad news, but it would be much easier to pray for his family if we had a name.

Pretty obvious, but most don't get it. The board prays harder for UT players.

Way to miss the point there, Einstein. Way to be negative.

No one prays harder for Vols, it's just more personal when there is a name.

Former high school player of mine in NE TN, Tri-Cities area.. Not a Vol. Great athlete. Unfortunately, at this point, it looks to be gang related per local paper. Sad, sad deal.

Times News Mobile | Kingsport, TN

Edit: story initially said it was believed to be gang related. Looks like they have backed off that now.

"Gang activity originating in Bristol is involved"

This is still in the story. My prayers are sent, but a part of me is almost in awe that there is gang activity in Bristol... a town of about 37k people (at least when I moved to Knoxville approx: 8 years ago). My prayers are definitely with the family as well as the community I once belonged to. RIP

I skimmed and missed it. Thought they had backed off the claim. Thanks. I was shocked over the gang claim too. Lived in area all my life. He went by Jay not Jarrett and was a good fella when he played for me. I really feel for his mom. Great lady.

i live in colonial heights area of Kingsport, shocking to hear of such a tragedy so close to home. Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the deceased. Godspeed to the officers conducting the investigation, find these criminals and bring them to justice!
