As if the Florida-Tennessee rivalry couldn't get more interesting this offseason. There are no official reports yet, but rumors are swirling about former Gator quarterback Cam Newton heading to Tennessee to play for Lane Kiffin. Here's the original link from Gatortailgating.com. It's not like this is some third-string defensive tackle. This was a five-star, 6-foot-6 quarterback who left the Gators in January after being arrested for allegedly stealing a laptop and throwing it out of his dorm window upon suspicion. He also left because John Brantley was likely the Tim Tebow successor at that point.

I just dont see it happening if Marve comes...He will prob. end up with Mulley Mull down at Miss. State. He would be a great get though by our staff.

Shucks... the article title still has a question mark after it.

I'm ready for the one with an exclamation point!

He doesnt have to sit out a year does he ?Since he is from a JUCO school ?

It's been covered a few times in his recruiting thread. He needs to wait a year since it would be less than a year since he left UF.

He's 2010.

We've got JC, though, for the 2009 squad. :)

If Marve comes here, it won't happen. We would get Marve and 1 HS QB. That would probably be Hendrix if I had to speculate.

Could be kiff's big reciever. 6'5 4.5 sounds pretty good to me.

I've thought that a few times, but I wasn't going to post it. I don't know how he feels about that, but it seems he would be a stud in that position.

He would rather play QB at Miss. St. than play WR here. They don't have a QB to run the spread that I know of.

Update: A source close to Newton told me that there have been talks with Tennessee, among other schools, but Newton probably won't decide on a school until the end of the summer -- right before his first season with Blinn. And Mississippi State is very much in the picture for Newton. Dan Mullen's relationship with Newton is still tight from their Florida days.

IMO, this thread title is very misleading.

But could you imagine some time in 2010 that Cam Newton would be throwing passes in Neyland Stadium against the Gators defense? Just another way Kiffin can needle his least-favorite team. And the move makes sense for Tennessee. Newton's better than anybody Tennessee has calling signals right now. Though I thougth Newton was a spread quarterback, not a pro-style guy.

Stay tuned on this...
