Just saw this on ESPN.com -

Sources: San Francisco 49ers to franchise defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin at $7 million - ESPN

Considering how well former Vol DTs and DEs (Haynesworth, Henderson, S. Ellis, et al) are performing in the NFL, UT has become more a factory for developing defensive linemen and linebackers than for any offensive skill positions.

It is a wonder that UT has had difficulty in the past few years recruiting at those positions. Hopefully, Doo-Cox can change that.

[p.s. Just taking the Doo-Cox name out for a test drive.]

What about Cox-A-Dooley Doo!

I love how people think 22 y/o's should be fully developed and at their athletic peak straight out of college.....

the reality is some players just don't peak physically and mentally until their late 20s.

Well there are plenty 20-23 yr olds playing productive football. It's not like it's a rare thing. Players don't need to reach their mental or physical peak to play well in college, and few do or else every rookie 1st rd pick would dominate right away.

I went to middle school with Aubrayo. Good to see a local guy do well in the league.

Doo-Cox sounds like a nickname for one of those guys with blue barrels made into fighting rooster coops in rural parts of the South.

It is strange that we went nearly oh-fer on DTs in the past several years. Hughes was definitely a good recruiting pull. I remember how bad we needed DTs back when it went down the wire and we lost Marvin Austin to UNC. That year Rivals had every single DT in the top 12 listed with UT as a finalist. We got none. Strange.
Also interesting is how we have been able to get Jucos and bulk up DEs, and our defense has kept us from being bottom feeders in the SEC for years now.

Recently we've had one or two good tackles at most, but this is why our run defense fades so badly in the fourth qtr. Enough to put up decent numbers with good coaching, but not enough to be good late in close games.
