The guy's a genius.

Tennessee and Lane Kiffin bringing their billboards to the ATL | AJC College Sports Recruiting

Tennessee’s Kiffin plans to put up billboards in Florida | AJC College Sports Recruiting

I dont know if these are the same billborads being used around Ktown (Im not in the area anymore). I heard some guys on the sports station here in Greenville SC talking about it and they were raving about how they liked it and how it takes balls to market your product in the heart of enemy territory. Kiffin is a marketing guru.

I'm a Kiffin supporter, but it's not like this is an original idea.

Youre right. Auburn has some billboards up in ATL as we speak I understand. I really posted it to draw attention to the fact that UT/Kiffin are really making efforts to draw attention to the university and the football program, unlike in years past where "sit quietly in the corner and speak only when spoken to" seemed to be the MO. I like how they are getting out there where the kids/talent are and getting thier attention.

Agree! I love the guy and think he is a really smart guy but, some people are making him out to be Aristotle.

What in the world makes you think Kiffin had anything in the world to do with these billboards? Marketing guru, yeah right.

Im sure he didnt come up with the idea (as I stated, Auburn already has such billboards in place in GA, I dont know about elsewhere) but he seems to be the driving force behind it.

Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin announced plans for an advertising plan last week while addressing his audience at the SEC football media days. More specifically, he said a “billboard will be going up” in Florida next month
.

The biggest difference I see is that it seems to be a all out media blitz, covering the metro areas in TN, GA and Florida. I dont know but I would venture to say this is the first time UT has purchased billboard space in all these areas
simultaneously. But I have no way of knowing.

Point being, can you imagine Phil ever signing off on something like this?

Yes there is one on pLeasent Hill in Duluth. Kiffin is going after Ga recruits and Rod Garner made a huge mistake staying @ UGA because Kiffin is going to crush these guys in the Recruitin battles, I feel that is one of the things he sold Hammy on!

It's not original. But he gets more play out of it than anyone else. When AUB did it no one cared a bit. Now the jort wearers, bammers and UGA nerds are pissed. The fact they are bothered by it is funny and great to me. Money well spent

Contrasted with Fulmer and his old school, modest approach, this is like bringing early man out of the dark and giving him fire.

I get the point, who do you think these billboards are for?

(and FYI, the title was posted with tounge in cheek)

well kinda, see the kids can paint the prospects' names on the wrong and that's ok and they're like "hey, that's my name, that's so cool that they did that for me!"

Kiffin putting their names on a billboard...and well I think that would just lead to more talks about secondary violations and craziness and more espn bad talk

...plus the former just feels a little more personal, you know :)

How many times has UT undertaken such a campaign before Kiffin got here?

We didn't have a Tennessee Terrace or a larger screen in the stadium either. I guess he's the driving force there too.

Billboards are something that would not have been planned years in advance like those would be so its very possible that Kiffin had a part in it. I think a guy like Fulmer would see that as being obnoxious and wouldn't go for putting billboards in foreign territory. If you're going to try and own someone you need to not try and do it with something you know is wrong

So let me get this straight. You honestly believe CLK walks into the marketing department and says, "Hey guys, I've been thinking, we should put up billboards across the state pushing Berry for heisman. And while we're at it, we should put some in GA and FL pushing ticket sales."

To which everyone in the MARKETING department slaps their heads and say, "Dude, what a great idea. We never thought about that. Since our ticket sales have cratered we were trying to think of a way to advertise. Thanks Lane, you're the best."

LSU used to have a billboard advertisement on Murfreesboro Road in Nashville. Never did understand that. It was not a very nice part of town, not many people from that area heading out of state for college I would assume. Not sure what they were targeting.
