Yes Pac-10 officials do suck. UCLA sucked even more. UT sucked most.

I wonder if everyone would be up in arms right now if that safety would have been call correctly....

Officials always suck, but when you play that bad it doesn't matter anyway. Maryville H.S. could have beat UCLA. The Vols just stink this year, and they will every year until that deadbeat is gone!!! No more Offensive Coordinators to blame, its all Phil now!!!!!!!!!

Yes it is to be blamed on the coaching, but there were some BAD plays...Take that safety for example...THAT WAS A SAFETY BTW....that gives us two more points making the final score 26-24 us...That was your ballgame there.

ok, take those 3 turnovers that produced no points because of stubborn play calling.

the 50+ yard field goals that should've been 4th down conversions that did nothing but destroy lincoln's confidence to leave him 1/4.

the shotty secondary play calling that let them drive all the way down the field for the shady screen play and pylon play.

refs never make all of the right calls, but the fact that those calls really meant that much shows how bad the coaching was.

Ad some how bad the team was in there too. It was a combined effort.

if the safety had been called correctly (even after review for chrissakes!), that may have been enough to put momentum our way.

Or maybe not..

You have a valid point but the game should have never been that close. I remember in 96 when we lost to Memphis people were complaining about the guys knee hitting the ground after he returned a kickoff for a touchdown but the point is that we should have beat Memphis by 40. There were some blown calls but the game should have been won by at least three touchdowns against the Bruins.

RE the "safety": From what I saw he got the tip of the ball over the line, meaning in the field of play. It was close but i thought he made it out.

Even IF they called back that TD- UCLA would have been on the 1 inch line against our depleted defense that basically played the entire freaking game for us.

No excuses.

I may be wrong on this, but I was under the impression that the entire ball had to be on the other side of the line (i.e., in the field of play)...

No, any part of the ball can "break the plane" and it not be a safety

Nope . . . if any part of the ball breaks the plane of the back edge of the line, it's not a safety.

I actually thought at that point that UCLA would have been better off giving up the deuce and setting you back in your own territory. Their punter, who I assume would have done the free kick for it, was impressive.

You do realize that after a safety, you punt the ball back to the opposition?

or our sweet special teams spread punt formation. that was impressive.

Are people really just noticing this spread punt formation now? Not just you but I've seen this statement numerous times over the past day. They installed this new punt formation for the UGA game last year. Noticed it at that game.

It wasn't the formation that caused the punt block. It was the guy who decided to let two people come around the right side untouched...

I looked to me like his elbow was down in the endzone which would make it a safety no?
