NISSAN XTERRA? What do y'all think of these? This one is a 2005 and they are asking $5500. It is said to have 180K miles, whiich could be plausible. It is 6cyl, auto and 4wd.

Meanwhile the other one brother likes is a 2012 chevy equinox, 170,000 miles, seemingly neat and tight, BUT no AC at this time, and they are NOTORIOUS for transmission trouble. They asking 6K for this one. 🤔
Everyting I've ever read is the Xterra is pretty solid, knowing you will have a few nissan bugs of the era to watch for. It will need to be checked for the good ole nissan trans/radiator fluid mixing. A shared issue with the Pathfinder line for years. Maybe the Frontier as well. A radiator upgrade is a permanent fix. If you want to see some off-roading I've read that the front diff and CV's are weak minded. Better to swap out with Titan M205 Diff and v8 Pathfiner CV's. Bolt in swap w/o mods. But, that's a mod prob more suited to outfitting as an overlander, as would be swapping the rear end for a Pro 4x rear end (Dana44).

If it has been taken care of, there's a good bit more life in that 180K from what I've read. Search Xterra threads on Reddit. Good owner info there.

Just boring. I like taking the top off in the summer.

I would look at the new Santa Fe's. Hyundai is the best when it comes to bang for buck with features. We love our Palisade Limited. I barely feel like I'm driving. The Santa Fe is a little sportier, you can get the XRT version, and all the new Santa Fe's have the coolest moon roofs. It's not top off, but it's a close 2nd IMO, and way easier.

The pictures don't really do it justice

I'm really wary about Hyundai right now. Oldest daughter has a 16 Santa Fe which was originally bought new for the wife. Just had the engine replaced for the second time, both times it died while she was in the highway. Fortunately both replacements were under warranty. I know they've changed engines since that generation but still don't think I'd consider a Hyundai for a while. The new ones look good though.

FWIW, between my family and some in-laws, we've had 1 Santa Fe, 2 Palisades, and 3 Elantras. All good

My son had a Sonata that had a catastrophic engine failure. Thankfully, he was on a back road and nobody was injured. The tow guy alerted me to the class action lawsuit, etc, and I read up on the known issue, got it replaced after a 3 month wait on parts, and got rid of it. What the company did (or did NOT do) about that engine should have ended Hyundai.

I will never buy another car from them.

They are very nice but if I’m going fixed roof I’m getting a new Lexus GX.

I’m down to either a bronco raptor, wrangler Sahara with sky active, or convertible C8.

I will probably get new wrangler as I go to mountains regularly and the beach and I don’t want two cars.

Test drove the raptor and for 80k (110k msrp) I love the looks but it’s just not fast enough. Wrangler is 55k. 60k after I add 35s and a Ram hood vent. Take the extra 20k and buy a Rolex explorer 2 and still 10k saved.

Every car I read about other than Toyota or Honda has issues but damn both make the most boring ass looking cars.

The new passport looks nice though.

Anyone have thoughts on the 25 Ranger Raptor? Drove one recently and man that is a fun ride! Anyone have personal pros or cons with them?

Just doing some due diligence before pulling the trigger......or not

The thing is a blast. The engine has been around awhile.

I'm an old landcruiser fanatic. Had an 89 FJ62 for a few miles. Then they went luxury, but still maintained their abilities. Toyotas and Hondas do have major issues though, just not as often. There is a stretch of '04-'08 Landcruiser and trucks prior back to '95 that had catastrophic frame rust/rot/failure.

But, given the lack of engine choice in the new LC's, I'd definitely go the GX route to get the v6 variant and the 8000 lb towing. The prior GX/LC Prada variants were/are beasts. IMO though, if toyo wanted to really get back to nature on the new LC attempt, they'd have commissioned a solid and efficient I6 like the Mazda CX7/CX9 sports. In general, the corporate powers at Toyota lost their path long ago on the LC, atleast the US versions.

Yeah the motor could really go. I was impressed with the transmission too. Really smooth shifting.

one thing that I keep thinking about is the tech. Being able to change the shocks, exhaust, etc with controls on the steering wheel is pretty awesome. And it worked great. But man, if something happens with the code in that thing, all heck could break loose. Gremlins have to be sitting all over that cpu with the amount of gadgets and things to adjust.

They look nice. Seems way more reliable and the engine I think is a more reliable engine. If I was gonna buy a truck that would be it.

I wanna pull the trigger on a bronco soooo bad but everytime I do I read a report and get nervous. I travel alone a lot at night to ohio and fl and breaking down at 3am in bfe Alabama or bfe ky is just not something I want.

But damn I test drive the raptor in Gallatin and it just looks so f’n badass.

Same situation @NEO I'll read a bad report on a raptor forum and kinda shy myself back away. Then I remember driving it and I am ready to pay to play again 😆.

I like the Broncos alot too. They look awesome.

The dealership in Gallatin offers a lifetime Powertrain warranty. I’m gonna call em tomorrow and get the fine print details but if true that may be enough for me to do it. They just took over from miracle ford and are much better supposedly.

I can all but guarantee you that it is very limited to what is actually covered. It's just to get you in the door.

It's an EV now. So garbage. All the potentil in the world to be the greatest comeback in human history, and they pooped an energizer rabbit. The look is incredible and quite accurate, but that's all the points it get's.
Could be worse. Could be what Chevy did to the Blazer, making it just another CUV.

Stay away from Gallatin Ford. That warranty is a fraud, go to Hunt Ford in Franklin, KY

Thanks for the tip!

Ranger raptor really catching my eye and with the ford tune people are hit under 5 seconds. I’m down to outer banks with Sasquatch, bronco raptor, and ranger raptor. Just gotta make a decision but I’m gonna wait to get a 26 once I decide.
