For those who say UT is an "above average" program

I don't know what you mean by "burned to the ground again," but there definitely seems to be an attitude among our fans that our eventual return to our rightful place is inevitable; it's just a matter of how long it takes. And that's not true at all. There's nothing definite about it. Every year that goes by makes it less certain.
lol, no it doesnt.

UT hasn't been a good football program since 2000. Your thinking sounds like something a South Carolina fan would say.

Really??? 01,04,06,07
Although we didn't win any championships only one team can win it And we had some good solid teams those years.
I'm not a bandwagon jumper as I May get upset throughout , I start The season off very optimistic And hopeful each And every year as Well as supported every coach we have had. I'm not talking down on This team or any of thepast teams just because we have came on tough times. And haven't been able to put it all together. I'm a fan of The T And support anyone affiliated with The program until it gets to The point That its hopeless. Then And only then will I want to see changes.
If your a real fan support This team And quit being so negative.

You don't go from a bad team to instant contenders. Especially with how hectic things have been on a consistent basis. One doesn't continually stay on top either. It's all a cycle, and it just depends on how quickly a program can work through that cycle that determines that programs greatness. So, if this team finds a way to make it to 9-3, I for one will be ecstatic.
I'm glad to see some common sense as Well as an abilty to reason And understand The situation.

re the OP, fascinating stats. over the last 20 years, UT has been one of the top NFL factories in the SEC and nationwide and has 2 SECC.

where is Texas Tech on those lists?

i read an interesting article this week on mike leach. article stated that while leach had averaged 8 wins/year at TT over a period of about 10 years (how have we done over the last 10?), TT had put almost no players in the NFL. conclusion by the author was that one of leach's strengths as a coach is that he is able to accomplish more with less.

2 championships in 20 yrs (those were back to back in '97 and '98). The word among coaches during most of this 20 yr period was "Tennessee had great players, average coaching". This kinda supports it. Unfortunately, opposing coaches dont say Vols have great players anymore

Since 1990, Alabama has 2 SEC titles. Which one of you are going to say that program is only "above average". Odds of winning a title are not that high, especially in todays football.

Edit: I missed 1992, make that a lowly 3.

92, 99, 09, and 3 NCs.

now, carry on.

Psst, LSU won in 2011. Remember, true measure comes from SEC titles. From what I gather.

correct, my bad.

and i don't think that you will get much disagreement over UF being the dominant SEC team of the last 20 years.

but we produced more NFL players.

In Bama math, that adds up to 8.

The point being, championships are hard to come by, especially now that teams are more equal. UT and Bama are historically great programs. That can't be taken away because of a few years of not winning a championship. How many times have we competed for said championships?

i think i see your point. depends on where one chooses to draw the line as far as defining what is "great."

some would say NC. i would say that there are too many variables and that NCs are overall too rare to be made the benchmark.

some would say winning the SECE. to me that means that we were better than 5 other teams, but since VU and UK are non factors it really means that we were the best of 3 teams.

so i believe that the SECC is the benchmark. there are about 6 teams capable of competing for same, so imo UT being "competitive" means an SECC about every 5-6 years.

unless saban keeps coaching from the nursing home i don't think that we will ever see 8 SECC in 20 years again.

Since 1977, 6 teams have won SECCs. Today; Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina have realistic chances of winning. Of those 7, only 1 team can win.

We last played in the game in what, 2007? So we are due this year or next lol.

Once you take out the chest-pounding, I don't see that he's done anything more than Bobby Johnson and Woody Widenhofer. He went 2-6 in his conference. He played a close game against a bored good team in that 11:30 CST Jefferson Pilot slot, just like Vandy does every year, and his team found away to choke away that win, just like Vandy does every year. I am not yet impressed.

Vandy was north of UT in the SEC rankings last year... but what's most noticable is that Vandy has more swagger than does UT. They're also north of us in 2013 recruiting (they're 15th and we're 20th). It took us overtime (and somewhat of a charity call) to beat them last year.

Be objective now... we're talking about Vanderbilt. That program is the poster child for a playing football in way that totally sux.

We're UT... one of the most powerful programs of all time. The comparsion heavily favors Franklin's job at Vandy over Dooley's (not many AD are debating that).

When Franklin beats a good team, I'll be impressed. Until then he's just a blowhard. Vandy's new coach is always supposed to be energizing the program, turning Vandy around, etc. it never happens. Franklin inherited a veteran team and had a good season (for them), which means he still went 2-6. Yawn.

Charity call eh? I didn't know recruiting was final in August (see last year). Congratulations on being ranked higher, you still lost to UT.

What does it say about you as a coach, that you lose to Dooley, who according to some is the worst coach in college football?

Dooley isn't the worst coach in college football; he just hasn't shown he's the guy who can lead UT back to contending for championships. There's quite a bit of space between those two levels of coaches.

Anyways... hope this is the year Dooley proves me and most of the rest of the thinking world wrong.
