For those who have an educated thought...(the problem)

I’m that die hard fan stuck up in the frozen tundra of wisconsin. Almost all of my info for UT comes from this board.

I read countless posts that just refer to how much Pruitt sucks. Ok, I don’t disagree IN THE LEAST.

WHY does he suck? He can’t just being doing a couple things wrong. I’d think most of us agree he has a heck of a staff. It just seems so implausible based on his staff alone that we could suck THIS bad. Are there obvious things some of you more educated fans are seeing or hearing about?!

I just kind of want some meat on the bones as to how on EARTH we could play this bad! The first game the whole team looked lost and disinterested. The 2nd game we had much better energy but still lost to BYU AT HOME! Then pounded on Mary Mother School of the Blind. And then go to the swamp and for whatever reason a pocket of fans found ways to believe a switch would flip. The energy appeared to be there but gosh we look like almost every recruit is a complete flop. We can’t go toe to toe at ANY position with a reasonably good team.

Its painfully obvious that being a great defensive coordinator doesn’t translate into building a great program builder, player developer and CEO, which is required of you want to be a successful HC.

There were some positive takeaways from last season. Something seemed to change beginning with the Missouri game last November. We are 1-5 since then and have shown no life at all. The team isn't responding to his coaching.

The game would have been a lot closer if we could figure out how to break up that 30 yard pass across the middle that was there for Florida anytime they needed it. Less dumb penalties also.

A team that lost to GSU, was a 14 point dog to Florida, doesn't have a QB, has multiple true freshman on the OL, has tons of inexperience and youth on D...uhhh, what do fans expect?

No one knows at this point if Pruitt is the guy. The only way to know, is be patient and let the guy build the program but most fans are out of patience.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a team which, has the ability to be at least an average team, but makes a habit of REGULARLY making the most critical mistakes at the most critical times. I really am at a loss to try and remotely describe it.

ESPN probably described it best in their recap: Tennessee's performance was mostly a debacle, especially early.

Because we hired a commercial airline co-pilot to pilot a space ship to the moon. He's a terrible head coach. Great assistant. Just like a lot of excellent Executive VPs run companies into the ground when they get their shot at CEO.

No passion to be head coach at Tennessee and also he sounds like he doesn't have a clue

Pruitt is awful because he had no head coaching experience coming into the toughest rebuild job in all of college football. With the resources at the University of Tennessee; who in their right mind would hire an unproven coach with no head coaching experience to take over and lead a rebuilding program that is already so far behind the rest of the competition? I don’t blame Pruitt for not being up to the task. Few people really would be. The blame falls solely on the incompetent administration that even considered such a poor hire.

It’s pressure and inexperience man. Obviously, someone higher up has been talking to him. His problem is what advice to take and how to leave his own mark.
For instance, someone had to tell him before the BYU game he needs more passion. Bc when they were running through the T, he was hitting and shoving players.
Another example, Fulmer and others were telling him to put in a new qb. Today, he’s thinking yeah I probably should to appease some folks. Didn’t work out, so he’s like I’m going back to JG.
ALOT OF PRESSURE COMES WITH THIS UT JOB. It just is what it is. No matter 0-12 or 12-0.
He’s kinda lost right now and has lost his identity imho.

It really does seem like we took a big step backwards in the off season. I expected the offense to struggle all of Chaney's offenses finish in the middle of the pack in his 1st year. The defense however should at least be able to cover the middle of the field.

He has never been a head coach and it shows. Some coaches just aren’t cut out to be head coaches, it’s just that simple. He doesn’t have the skill set to be a head coach
