The refs got the call right. The dumbass that ruled Gordon down was where the screwup happened. If they violated a technicality yet got the right call, I have no problem with it. The real travesty would have been them not reviewing the play. If we were in the same position as Candy, I would feel the same way. The correct call was made.

I agree, but sadly some fail to see the logic. This has been explained in numerous threads to no avail. Simply, you cannot convince someone that will not use common sense.

That dumbass screwed up twice. He originally said it was a fumble recovery instead of an INT. As you stated, regardless, the right call was made.

Or just a dishonest person who thinks the truth is a relative concept that can be stretched to benefit your agenda.

The whistle was blown. At that second, the play was over. It's true the official missed the call, but lying about the whistle is/was reprehensible. Tennessee should have gotten the ball on Vandy's 25. Basically the lesson the officials sent to everyone watching was that if you make a mistake, do something else wrong to make up for it.

Last year ESPN had a segment about the worst call of the year, and it was the debacle at the Music City Bowl. There were 8 missed calls that resulted in UNC being handed the victory. If any team deserved a missed call to go in their favor, it was UT. But lets not bury our heads in the sand. The correct application of the rules would have given us the ball on Vandy's 25 with a very shaky kicker.

I can understand Vandy fans being pissed cause thats what fans do but what pisses me off more than anything is the Dooley haters actually upset about the call and wanted us to lose.

Basically, the lesson to the officials should be don't blow plays down if they're not sure that the player was, in fact, down. It would have been as big a travesty as I've ever seen if they ruled it unreviewable. They got the call right whether you like it or not; the result was the correct call. So, quit being an idiot.

Or maybe it's don't blow your damn whistle and let the players settle the game and after Gordon scored then you REVIEW the play to see if the knee touched the ground. Either way, UT got a pick 6 and the end result is what should've happened.

Exactly right. At the end of the day, the correct call was made.

Blowing the whistle, is what caused the controversy. At game speed, from the angle the ref had, it may very well have appeared the knee was down. All that matters is the play was reviewed and gotten right, even though the review did break the current review rules. I assure everyone if the situation were reversed, every Vol fan alive would be as upset as Franklin and Vandy if not more so. We finally got the benefit, of a game ending call ... be happy and have a nice day. :)

Dooley couldn't ask for a review however....
NCAA Rule 12 Article 3 Section 6. No other plays or officiating decisions are reviewable. However, the replay official may correct egregious errors, including those involving the game clock, whether or not a play is reviewable. This excludes fouls that are
not specifically reviewable (Reviewable fouls: Rules 12-3-2-c and d, 12-3-4-b
and 12-3-5-a).http://www.americanfootball.ru/Sport/Rule/2011_football_rules.pdf

I wouldn't be upset at all about the call. If we were dumb enough to throw a pick six in overtime, I wouldn't be crying that the refs didn't find a way to uphold an utterly 100% wrong call to save us.

I can not think of his name, but the ref who used to be a TE for Vandy that hates us must have told that ref to fill in for him since he was not there.:whistling:

Are you mad because your Vandy win prediction didn't work out? Get over it.

Also people watching the game on tv heard the whistle. The play happened right in front of me and I heard no whistle, but the field mic was also right in front of me (I know because my wife asked me what the giant blue dish the guy was holding earlier in the game). So the whistle may have been clear on tv but in the stadium I doubt it was heard on the field over the crowd's reaction to the interception. No Vandy player in position to make a play quit running.

Obviously the official is blind or else in no position to make any call at that point. Thought it was a fumble then thought knee down. If you can't see what happened then don't make a call. The whole crew sucks and should be suspended again, permanently.

Even if the refs blow the call, its our ball on the 25 with 4 downs and we only need 3 points. So the cry babies need to shut the hell up!!

I had no idea there was a whistle. Nobody stopped the play. I don't get the beef.

You guys are pathetic. If Tennessee had lost the game on the same call, you'd be irate. You are hypocritical women if you say one word about Dooley beating LSU or UNC except for bad calls. You better never mention those games again. Bad calls happen. We are 1-2 on game ending bad calls. Stop lying to yourselves. It's okay to support your team without living in a state of blind denial.

Not really...what you are arguing is WHEN the correct call should be applied.

In the "correct application of the rules" there would have never been a whistle.

You're an idiot.

It's been proven. We really need a system to prove people have a degree (like TexAgs' AgTag), because I seriously doubt you have the mental capacity to have even earned a GED.
