I agree with the post that those that know arent talking; its only the pundits and talking heads that are talking and its all speculation. Truth is only the search firm and Hammy know who is on our list. The likely candidates are on the media's list, and the media's list becomes UTs list. And UT's real list does include some names on the media list; but make no mistake there are others.......

it will not become public until after we play Kentucky. If we have a coach in pocket, we will find out on Nov 30 or Dec 1. If Dec 1 comes and goes without an annoucement, then our coach is coaching a team that will be playing for a championship (conference, NC, or NFL).

I'll be surprised if Kiffin isn't our coach, if its true that Hamilton wants a coach by 12/1

I am not sure anyone knows who the new HC is going to be. I think we are sill in the stages of first round interviews, and soon we will enter the 2nd round. I have no sources, it is just my personal opinion.

As for we need to have a new coach by such and such date. No we don't! Notre Dame hired Weiss and he won the Superbowl for crying out loud! But, in between, he was hard at work recruiting and being the HC for Notre Dame, so we don't have to have a coach by any certain date.

Let me just throw another name out there that you may not have heard about, and it actually goes along (sort of) with this whole thread on the "people in the know"

Kyle Shanahan

1. KS
2. His dad coached at Oakland
3. He was involved in some sort of contoversy when he was younger (I believe drugs, but don't hold me to that)

Now, he is young(28), but he is going to be a HC very soon. He is the Offensive Coordinator for the Houston Texans. You should check him out.

UT will not turn the program over to a 28 year old kid.

last time UT turned the program over to a 28 year old kid it was a disaster, spelled Bill Battle.

i agree with lex's points. i also think that MH would not toss out a performance metric (Dec 1) unless he was pretty sure that he could meet it. meaning, if he blows the new hire his job becomes tenuous. if he says Dec 1 and there is no new coach come mid Dec or so, he is open to more criticism.

i think we get to meet new UT coach lane kiffen at a press conference held shortly after the KY game, although the cowher clues/speculation are interesting.

Cowher is not going to be the coach or Gruden or Santa Claus and after the game last night I'd be surprised if Kelly even gets mentioned here anymore....Kiffin or Leach are most likely the top 2 guys now...I do wonder what happened during the interview with Clemson this week...Would've liked to have been a fly on the wall during that one.

Leach is slightly more likely than Finevol to be UT's next head coach.

Edit: that was meant as both a compliment to Finevol and a slight to Mike Leach.

I beg to differ. He has impressed every coach he has come into contact with. If they bought him in and he blows them away in the interview, he could very well be the next HC. I think it just about as likely that Gruden or Cowher will be the next HC as KS. Plus, Lane Kiffin is only 33... Just saying.

JD, You don't give a Ferrari to a 16 year old. Even if it does need a tune-up.

From another thread, there have been assurances that Tennessee has a new coach, or at least a verbal-type agreement in place. There have been clues to this person's identity, however I am still clueless. I guess my reasoning or deductive skills are not up to par with the rest of you so here is my request; HELP! :)

All I am asking for at this point is a "yes" or a "no" answer.

1. Is this person's name Gruden, Davis, Cowher, Kelly, Kiffin, or Leach?

That's it.

Oh and GO VOLS!!!

According to what I've been reading, the Vol Navy will be flying the Jolly Roger next year:pirate: Har! Matey!!!

What's bad about Fine Vol for HC?

I think Shields-Watkins Field may be dyed Orange by the next HC. JMO.

1. He's not 16

2. I was just throwing a name out there, I don't even want him... I would prefer Leach or Kiffin

Im 16 and you could give me a Ferrari if you want to. I could handle it. And the Shanahan idea, I like it, but in a few years maybe.

If it is Kiffin, how long does he stay...5 yrs? I can only see him using the job to build his reputation as a coach and then bye bye....

I'm guessing MH may be looking at 10 to 20 guys i don't know how you can tier the list to 3 groups and the first tier be all NFL coaches with little if any college experience. If we are dreaming my first tier would be Pete Carroll, Mack Brown, Urban Meyer,Bob Stoops. Then maybe Davis, Leach, Kelly,Kiffen

The answer is that no one knows yet. This is a fluid situation since some of the candidates are still coaching very important games. I firmly believe that many Michigan insiders were sure they had Miles hired last year, but things change. It is very hard to be patient though.
