For those demanding fans realize what Tennessee is...

The bottom line is in 2021 when a program wants to pay 4 mill per year you are going to be average at best. It's crystal clear the powers that be don't want to be a power again. They want to save $ on the front end and are satisfied with a ceiling of 8-4 ish. If you are ok with that then UT is your program. Fact is they don't deserve us anymore

Largely agree, except they don't give a rip what the record is.

I get that people don’t like the Heupel hire. I can completely see why they don’t like it. James Franklin, Matt Campbell or Hugh Freeze would make us all feel better about the state of the program. The deal is, DW had 50 million to hand to a coach. 50 million and no one wanted to take it because of the mess that Pruitt and Fulmer got us into. It’s 21 and if we fire him by 25, assuming he doesn’t work out, we’re on the hook for 12 million. He will stabilize the program at a minimum. With his offense, we’ll be competitive in every game. That’s far better than we were. We won’t have the NCAA sanctions hanging over us anymore. So, if he does work out, great. I think if you look at things long term, heupel and white will make this place far more desirable than it’s been in 20 years. I’d say 25-26 at the latest, we’re playing big boy football again. For the next three years we need to hang tough and support the program. Regardless, Tennessee will be back and our program stopped cratering last week when we hired white.

It's just weird. Hire a supposed top 5 AD then this. I don't know why i should be surprised though. They just keep losing generations of fans and they don't seem to care. I guess they can rent out Neyland to other events, if we're ever allowed to have people around each other ever again. Beginning to wonder on that. The new normal isn't normal at all.

Do you think our level of fan interest can be maintained if the next 12 years look like the last 12?

They've already whittled away a ton of fans. People forget what it used to be like when there were THOUSANDS of people outside Neyland who couldn't find scalped tickets. When you would really thank someone who would throw you a ticket if they couldn't go. I got offered a ticket last season and said no thanks.

Every one of these idiot hires starting with Dooley whittles off more and more.

Again, you guys spouting this have no clue if that is really true. That is what you are being told by the same people who brought you Dooley, Brick, Aight and now Hal Mumme's nephew and after each coach they told you...well, that is the best we could do and you believed them each time.

It’s sad. My two oldest sons have no interest in UT, at all. When I was their ages, I looked forward to the game all week

For the Under 25 crowd, you've grown up on mediocre to failing football most of your life. For the +25 you've experienced the mountain top live and want those moments back. Sad reality is our highlights on the jumbotron have not been updated with players born after the national championship.

I started going to the games with my Dad when I was about 6 (1989) when Majors had it rolling. The Vols were good, fun to watch, and the expectations were much different. The Athletic department took football seriously with Dickey calling the shots. All of that changed when Dickey retired, and no sack Hamilton stepped into that position. The Vols will continue to be a doormat or a middle of the pack team Unless the current AD brings back that type of leadership. UT brought in an AD that has a track record of success unlike Fulmer with no experience as AD. IMO, there is really nothing else to do except approach this with a wait and see attitude. I am sure as hell not taking up golf.

Yawn. What a tiresome load of crap. Since you have figured this out, what exactly is your point in continuing to post whiny, super-negative drivel? You've told us - it's over - admin doesn't care - we'll never be good again. So why hang around? Miserable people are miserable, and seem hell-bent on making everyone around them miserable. Kind of like a raging 2-yo pitching a fit because his mom won't buy him a candy bar, all the while oblivious to how ridiculous and pathetic he looks.

Have you ever thought how tiresome you sheepish sunshine pumpers come across? How about we all agree we are a freaking blue blood college football program that is being screwed over by our admin and tremendously RAISE our expectations?

Or not and continue to be Sisyphus and roll that rock up the hill.

Not to make light of abuse, but this is an abusive relationship for some of you.

If only you would love them more, they would stop abusing you.

Okay, why would anyone take this job for a marginal increase in salary in its current state? Do you offer 10 million a year to James Franklin? His production at penn state isn’t worth 7 million a year IMO. Do you roll the dice and pay Tony Elliott the same money you pay Heupel? What do you want the university to do? Come out with a press release with figures? Will that satisfy you? Do you have any idea how these sanctions are going to play out? No you don’t.

Hmm, no, I don't think that's right.

Look, he's not saying be sheepish. He's not saying ignore reality and pump sunshine while our building burns down.

He's saying be polite about it. Act like we're a community who care for each other. Have a bit of class. Enjoy success where we find it, even if it's not yet absolute. Don't wallow in our misery and force each other to remember our limitations constantly.

That doesn't help anyone, and it doesn't--won't--ever--make us a better program.

That's all he's saying. It doesn't make him a sheep. It only makes him more pleasant to be around while we're slogging the long path back toward excellence.

You realize when we hired Dooley, the same exact excuses were used then? And after each failed hire since. Coincidence? Or are you being lied to?

I didn't see the presser introducing Heupel, just a clip on the local news. AD White said Heupel was the only coach he offered the position to, but that doesn't mean he didn't talk with other coaches to find out if there was interest in coming to Knoxville. My guess is, and only a guess, that all the coaches he spoke with had no interest in coming with the current state of affairs on the Hill. Without any options, he simply offered to the guy he had a relationship with already. I believe that AD White is the real deal, else he wouldn't have been rated as the 4th best AD in college football. Past administrations and booster meddling has Tennessee in the situation it's in right now, and I hope we are headed in the right direction for a change.

I'd love a media member to push White on what Heupel sold him in the interview in regards to a defensive staff. His defensive staff at UCF was atrocious. How did he say he would address that in the interview. Remember, Heupel was so impressive in this interview that he is the only candidate you (White) offered him the job. So, again, what did he sell you as his vision for his defensive staff?

Because right now...I see a lot of head scratching behind the scenes. There was no plan. There was no real interview. This was a package deal from the jump and all indications show that.

Do you also demand their interest and passion levels to remain the same? Reality is UT Football is an uninteresting, poorly ran source of sports entertainment in a flooded market. If everyone accepts that, we’re done. Apathy is setting in and a generation has already been lost. Regardless of what the administration says, I’d bet they’d be much happier taking their annual SEC and Nike money, and let the football program become Syracuse. The only thing standing in the way of that fate is a high level of fan interest and passion
My question is....who will hold who accountable when Neyland stadium looks like Miami's on gameday during their fall...Miami_Crowd_SunLife.jpeg
