For those complaining about how CJP handled the QB situation...

Are we talking about the same Fromm? SEC freshman of The year? Won an SECCG? Was 4 points from a Natty? Fromm took UGA to the highest levels of football. Could it have been 4 points better under Fields? Maybe, maybe not. They are/were 2 elite college QBs with totally different styles. Kirby had a GOOD problem to deal with. I’ll take that kind of bungling all day long if we get the same results.

Kirby made a huge mistake.

Idiotic thread.

Agree.

Pruitt learned that you have to play the players that practice the best to have any credibility with all the players/staff year in and year out.
It is fundamentally part of being a HC, it is called competition. He learned this from a man that is considered by most to be the best college football coach in history, Nick Saban. It’s really the only stead fast tool a coach has to instill hard work and competition in to a program.

No I do not think Pruitt is a good head coach (at this time) nor do I believe JG is an SEC QB, however this particular philosophy is sound else Saban wouldn’t use it.

At least he has not bungled the QB position the way that Coach Kirby Smart has done at Georgia. He stuck with Fromm too long without realizing his limited ceiling and leaving Fields on the bench (costing GA a national championship). He never tailored the system to match Field's ability. Fields transferred and has become a top 5 QB draft prospect. If CKS had made the move to play Fields over Fromm, GA probably would have won a national championship, and they probably would be playing for one this year. This year, he kept playing Stetson Bennett for too long and cost them a few games when he had a star in JT Daniels sitting on the bench.

So just to summarize, CJP is not the only one going through QB issues. Even a program like GA has their issues with QB and one could argue that they have handled their situation worse that us.
This is just jibber jabber—bottom line is that we need a new head coach. There is no need to dissect assistant coaching changes, position issues or anything else. We need to move on.

If you are watching current trends in the NFL, the “new” thing is the return of power running. The Titans and the Bills are winning playing “old Alabama football.” Football is constantly changing, people saying that type of play is dead are wrong.
The bills actually sling the ball. I wouldn’t describe them as a “power run team”

I’d rather fail while winning 11 games and going to SEC CG and occasional playoff game. Even the best teams not named Bama, Clemson and one year wonder LSU last year, need a ton of luck to win it all. We’d be talking about 1951 if not for ARK fumble.
LOL! LSU isn't a one year wonder. They've won more national championships than UT and have been far better the last 20 years

Eason was the better quarterback. Kirby made the mistake of not putting him back in when he was healthy and then letting Fields and Fromm battle it out the next year.

By the time Eason was healthy Fromm, the freshman, had won 4 games including at Notre Dame. It was Fromm's team. Eason never would have gotten UGA to the playoff. You must have seen how inconsistent he was U of Washington his senior year.

One common denominator that everyone seems to be missing in the Smart/Pruitt "mishandling the QB" issue is the OC--
Jim Chaney. It was Chaney's job as QB coach/OC to develop Fields and get him meaningful game reps. That never happened. Chaney left UGA for UT after Fields entered the transfer portal. Smart never countered the UT offer to try and keep him. Just something to think about.

You do realize JT Daniels was hurt for a chunk of the season. The situations aren’t even close. Kirby would at least pull his starters and give the backups a legitimate shot. Not give them one series, with 2 runs and a pass on 3rd n long when everyone in the world knew it would be a pass.

Just give us ONE 5 star QB. I just ask for that.

Smart has had a boatload of composite 5*s already - Eason, Fromm, Fields, goodness...

Chaney is just the worst.

That’s funny, because I remember thinking if Smart had stuck with Fromm, instead of playing Fields(hoping he wouldn’t transfer)Georgia would’ve won a NC.
GBO!!

Maybe. But have you ever been a top manager at a company where your boss is a clueless lunatic who won’t let you do your job? I have unfortunately. Something to think about.

Kirby made a huge mistake.

Why do we continue to compare ourselves to our rivals? UGA is a great team with solid leadership, I WISH we had "their" problems as opposed to:

1. loss to ky at home by 27
2. loss to Ga state
3. consecutive losses by double digits
4. SMASHED by all of our rivals and the laughing stock of the SEC (besides vandy)

That's likely false. Pruitt committed to a strategy and stubbornly refused to change when it was obvious to everyone but him that it had failed. He is so sold on the idea that practice directly translates to game performance that he cannot tolerate the thought of a "gamer" or a "practice All American". The latter.... may ultimately cost him his job.

It is more likely he was forced to change.... both times. I suspect that BM and Shrout will both leave UT and have success elsewhere.
I'm not sure how old you are, but I bet there is generational divide on the " gamer" aspect.

Some people seem to think practice is for scrubs and the best athletes "just play" and that is nonsense. The best players should be the best players at all times. Game time is when WE see it, but its not when they do the work. Work matters,

Yes JG was not good. Yes, Dobbs wad a notoriously bad practice player. Peyton was a phenomenal practice player and organized his own practices.

My question is, if they suck 5 days in a row at practice, why would you play them?

Would you play all the worst players from practice if you were a head coach? Do you think you can just look at a player and determine if they can do it or not?

I’m talking about quarterbacks and you’re talking about prospects. There’s also Vandergriff who was the top rated QB this year. It’s irrelevant. They’re winning and we’re losing.
In case you don't know. They are now our QB's. They are at TN and will be at Spring practice.

Comparing UGA’s problems at QB to UT’s is ridiculous.

So, I should blame JG for not transferring? Because Jarrett is neither Fromm nor Fields. We played a backup or 3rd string QB and called him a starter for years.

this makes me feel much better about CJP!! We don't suck as bad UGA!! Wait...we were blown out by them.

To summarize.....dumb thread
