For the stargazers

The younger posters have no idea unless they've watched some of these games on youtube. Neb. absolutely destroyed UF in '95 and that was probably Spurrier's best UF team.

I remember watching that game and thinking I've never seen a Florida team get beat down and have their backside handed to them on every play. Wuerfel was so beat up, if he was playing now he'd be in the concussion protocol.

If you wanna recruit a bunch of 3*'s every year....ok. find a coach that can coach them up.

until then, give me top 5 classes every year.

Nick Saban also went 12-0 in 2008 after being at Alabama for only 2 years and having 1 top 5 recruiting class. Then he wins a national title in 2009 with only 2 top 5 classes that were true freshmen and sophomores.

I think this is more Nick Saban than recruiting rank. He's the greatest college coach of all-time for a reason. He simply knows how to win.

There are many other teams with top flight classes the last 4 years that have flipped. Namely the University of Georgia and LSU.

:thud: Has to be the best D4H post ever. 1 like for you sir.

I feel like maybe youve unfairly singled out Foreman. He wasn't the best, and he gave up some plays, but he played with a lot of heart and gave his all.

He saved the South Carolina game two years ago by forcing a fumble on USCe's otherwise game winning play.

At the Georgia game this year, he gave up the huge Go ahead TD to Georgia, but just before that he had what should've been the game clinching interception, had we not done our typical 3 and out when you need a 1st down to seal it... we never would've needed that hail Mary and Georgia never would've went up on us.

And that amazing forced touchback in the A & M game, kept us alive and gave us a chance to win in.

I feel like he lived up to his expectation.

Well said. He had some head scratching/frustrating moments, but he also had some amazing ones as well.

Edit: Malik Foreman with the FF & FR!!!

There is more truth in this than some people realize. Nebraska of the 90's was some of the best teams I ever saw play. Oline domination was something to behold(except for the bowl games against us).
they played nobody. Tom Osborn was a horse's ass.

Yeah but Bama had a lot of talent on campus when Saban got there. They were hardly full of 2-3 stars. Shula was a bad coach, but he was a good recruiter.

Our best 5 year run in modern history was a direct recruit of Fulmer being the best recruiter in the country at the time, and having Cutcliffe and Chavis to develop them. The minute Cutcliffe left, QB didn't develop to their full potential. Casey Clausen was a prime example. His mechanics were so bad by his senior year he went from a sure 1st round talent to an undrafted free agent who was out of the league in 2 years.

The whole premise of this post seems to be star ratings are overrated and not that important. Fact is THEY ARE very important. They aren't the end all be all...but there's a reason Ala wins every damn game by double digits....and it's in no small part due to them having the most stars. It's not everything..but it's a heck of a lot.

Just a hint to all of you out there saying you would rather have a 3 star player than a 4/5 star player. We all realize that you are just saying that so that you can turn around and bash our coaching staff, however it just most of us think you don't understand how rankings work.

Did someone say zero (player) development?

-Butch Jones

Kinda negative, don't you think?

From Freak:

Dobbs totaled 3,777 yards this season (2,946 passing and 831 rushing) which is 12 short of Peyton Manning's season record of 3,789 in 1997.

Can't deny he developed. ZERO? come on man...

The stargazers would be beside themselves if this was one of the matchups from the 90's. I'm not even sure if Neb. even had a recruiting ranking. They grabbed 70 big guys off the farms and picked up 15 more to play QB, RB, & WR.

Tom Osborne didn't worry about such crap as recruiting rankings.

HA! Tom Osborne recruited nationally.
