Interesting long term look at recruiting.

I know vickers isn't a game changer, but more than solid for a two star. For everyone one of those I'm sure a few don't pan out, like Foreman but what the heck.

For every Josh Dobbs and Josh Malone, there is a Dontavious Blair and Jalen Hurd.

I know enough to know scouting agencies know more than me, but they have a nearly impossible task to rate nearly every HS player in America worth watching. These kids play in wildly different facilities and regions of the country, vastly different coaches and challenges. Vastly different levels of competition. So they get a lot right, but we shouldn't only care about 5 star guys. Maybe guys can grow and develop under this coaching staff. Ask Cam Sutton, Micah Abernathy and Brett Kendrick. We should keep trying to find kids like DB, Dobbs and Kamara but not overlook talent because of a star rating.

Showing the recruiting ranking of the kids 3 years ago doesn't say much as to what we can expect to see tomorrow, unless they have had zero development.

I feel like maybe youve unfairly singled out Foreman. He wasn't the best, and he gave up some plays, but he played with a lot of heart and gave his all.

He saved the South Carolina game two years ago by forcing a fumble on USCe's otherwise game winning play.

At the Georgia game this year, he gave up the huge Go ahead TD to Georgia, but just before that he had what should've been the game clinching interception, had we not done our typical 3 and out when you need a 1st down to seal it... we never would've needed that hail Mary and Georgia never would've went up on us.

And that amazing forced touchback in the A & M game, kept us alive and gave us a chance to win in.

I feel like he lived up to his expectation.

Hurd wasn't a bust.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe before the year started, most were praising Hurd like he was Jamal Lewis or someone. As soon as he quit, he automatically becomes "not that good" or "didn't do much."

Also, I'm not defending him leaving. That was cold on his part but don't undermine his performance here. He wasn't the greatest RB we've ever had but he was part of the teams that put us back on the map.

The stargazers would be beside themselves if this was one of the matchups from the 90's. I'm not even sure if Neb. even had a recruiting ranking. They grabbed 70 big guys off the farms and picked up 15 more to play QB, RB, & WR.

Tom Osborne didn't worry about such crap as recruiting rankings.

There is more truth in this than some people realize. Nebraska of the 90's was some of the best teams I ever saw play. Oline domination was something to behold(except for the bowl games against us).

The younger posters have no idea unless they've watched some of these games on youtube. Neb. absolutely destroyed UF in '95 and that was probably Spurrier's best UF team.

They were getting lots of recruits out of Oklahoma's territory back then. The Sooners were way down at that time. I use to live up that way back then and kept telling them just wait for Oklahoma to get their program back and things will change. That's what happened.

Our true blue stargazers would have us pass up on a lowly 3* named Marcus Mariota too, LOL!

Those same people are getting all jiggly wiggly about us maybe getting Mariotas OC and QB coach to come to Tennessee, LMAO!

I'm sure glad we didn't pass up on Cam Sutton because he was a lowly 3* kid.

FACT is that there's lots more 3* kids in the NFL than their are 4* and 5* kids.

VFL...GBO!!!

As a percentage to the total Pros/5 Stars vs Pros/3 Stars, 5 Stars win. You are always going to get some good 3 stars just based on shear numbers but this horse has been beat to death and you would always want the 4 and 5 stars over the 3 stars on average. There is no comparison.

Nick Saban also went 12-0 in 2008 after being at Alabama for only 2 years and having 1 top 5 recruiting class. Then he wins a national title in 2009 with only 2 top 5 classes that were true freshmen and sophomores.

I think this is more Nick Saban than recruiting rank. He's the greatest college coach of all-time for a reason. He simply knows how to win.

There are many other teams with top flight classes the last 4 years that have flipped. Namely the University of Georgia and LSU.

Coaching is the other factor. Put those two together and you win Nattys. Bama, OSU, Florida, FSU, USC, etc.

3 star kids can and do outperform many 4 and 5 stars IF they receive the needed coaching and on the field guidance. That's not what is happening under CBJ and his "best coaching staff".
