For the players and for the fans

What was the Butch and Son element?

His son is #39 and is a kicker I think?

When Butch got off the ladder he and his son had a prolonged embrace, Butch said something to him, gave him a peck on the side of the head. I don't remember if it was before or after the TN Waltz. But CBS held a camera on them the whole time.

Gotta admit it was very touching. And a great moment for both of them.

I did not see the original CBS broadcast. But I heard That CBS carried the celebration and Gary and Vern did very little talking to distract from the scene. Would love to hear the feedback from those who saw the telecast and how that looked on TV.

It was great. Those 2 turds even gave us props & were very impressed by our fans, celebration & reaction! CBS showed a lot of it too. Verne, of course, still thinks the Tennessee Waltz is our alma mater!

It was a great moment no doubt. The players and staff were happy and so was I. I think there must have been some dust in my eyes as they started leaking. It was a moment we can cherish as fans and CBS did a great job with the coverage.

When men have their hands on their hips, they are fatigued. By the end of the game, the Gator coaching staff looked like they were wiped out.

Like others have said, it was awesome. I don't think they could have done a better job (actually the fans and players did all the work, CBS just kept rolling and rolling). I stood in my living right in front the TV somewhat mesmerized. I turned to my daughter and said "I have never seen a network allow this much time for a post game celebration". I told her "they could be running commercials right now earning money but, they didn't do that". That was gift to U of T and fans. I even looked at my watch at it was 6:31(CDT) and I was even more surprised they had let it carry over into the next 30 minute time slot.

The only annoying thing was at the very end when CBJ was walking of the field with Cam Sutton on crutches. Verne kept saying (a few times) "I'll bet you anything that is Cam Sutton". I thought surely there is someone screaming into his ear bud "Yes, that's Cam Sutton. so move on".

I think he just wanted to show the world a Power T for as long as he could. I loved every second of it.

Also, it was difficult to catch what he said because of crowd noise and commentators, but I think Butch and the team laid out their post-game celebration plans in that huddle. I could make out something like "we're all going to sprint over to the student section." At least that was the gist I got. I think it could have been part of a plan to keep fans from storming the field.

Volnation would've looked weak to storm the field vs these gators. Staying in the stands and screaming for 20+ minutes, made us the envy of programs across this nation. As usual, well played Butch, well played.

AV

Just guessing here, but I dare say the administration had gotten word to the students not to storm the field. Every time that has happened at Neyland, the charge was led by students.

And since Hart was down on the sidelines with Butch, I find it safe to assume it was partially to coordinate efforts to get security in place to deter anybody who didn't get it, not just to enjoy the moment and grin like a cheshire cat.

Butch may be telling the truth about that time out, but I am not going to believe for one second it is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. No, they had a plan in place to avoid the field storming fine and the cost of replacing the field sod.

They more than likely got notice of the ramifications of what would happen if they did and were caught on camera.

And since Hart was down on the sidelines with Butch, I find it safe to assume it was partially to coordinate efforts to get security in place to deter anybody who didn't get it, not just to enjoy the moment and grin like a cheshire cat.

Hart is always on the sidelines at the games.

So now you are saying that Butch lied? Oh my. I actually believe him. I also think it allowed the team and the fans to take a breath, let sink in what was about to happen and somewhat get control of the emotion of it all before the clock hit zero. The place was absolutely rocking at that point with the realization of what was about to occur.

If enough folks wanted to storm the field, there is no way that the security they had there could have stopped them. I think they got the word out to the students and when the students didn't the older folks behaved.

A long time ago in a stadium far far away during my freshman year in 1982 we decided to take the field after the Bama win. Security was in front of the student section looking menacing. All kinds of cops looking menacing around.

The clock struck zero. The student section emptied. The rest of the stadium started to empty.

All that security? Didn't see one while I was on the field. Didn't see one till we got to the tunnel with the south goal post. They were trying to keep people out of our way.

Not sure why the students didn't storm the field. But I do know that if a few, just a few, would have done it there probably isn't a damn thing anybody could have done to stop them.

The one time it did fail that I personally witnessed. 1985 Sugar Bowl over Miami. One guy goes over the wall and I **** you not 20 cops were on him like like stink on gator, beat the living hell outta him, and drug him off all in a span of about a minute. Yeah... decided to just go to Bourbon St instead.

Yeah I know. Cool story bro. But dammit... it was glorious

Coach Jones and his son (who Verne and Gary said was the backup holder on the team) hugged. A bunch of players kept coming up to Coach and hugged him as well. It really was like watching a VFL Film production. Great advertising for the program

Not Jennings, my man was still running.
