SIAP but this artile by SDS is great and really sums up the insane challenges CJP had to try and overcome.

Jeremy Pruitt details challenges of recruiting for new school, building recruiting board during coaching change

A few noteworthy tidbits.

"It’s fair to say no college football coach entering 2017 had ever experienced a more challenging situation than Jeremy Pruitt did after taking over the Tennessee program."

“Starting at a new place, it was a little different with the early signing period, you basically got seven to 10 days. It’s hard when you’ve been recruiting a guy for 2-3 years to go to a school, you’re not going to go in there and tell a guy, ‘Hey, by the way, Tennessee is the best place for you.’ So, you kinda eliminate that pool of guys, that was going to sign early, so we basically had 7-10 days to go out and reach out and basically create a new board and go from there. And I thought we done a really good job.”

Spot on BOT. This will be lowest ranked class CJP will have. We should consider ourselves damn lucky to be top 20 with this signing class. Things will get MUCH better next signing period.

Completely agree. And I think the 2019 class could be really good, especially if we can get to a bowl game.

Oh definitely and with 18 recruits being 4-5 stars just in state, this should be a really good class. If we can get at least 12 of those, I’d be stoked.

The fact he explained it this way -- "I thought we done a really good job" -- is for right now, sufficient for me.

We have the talent on roster to get to a bowl, and now I feel confident we have a staff to develop these players and make the proper in game adjustments to win some games we aren't favored in.

The good news is this staff has put the rest of the SEC on Notice and that every recruit moving forward is up for grabs

Frankly I'm amazed at the backlash. Butch Jones' first class was weaker than this and he didn't receive nearly as much blow back. I'm not sure why everyone is now suddenly expecting a top 10 class from a staff that has been on the job for 6 weeks.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the state loaded with talent '19 & '20 classes? Already an added boost to help get the program rolling. I also think CJP will lock down the state. GBO. It's all up from here team.

Can we now count a few of the December 18 signees back against our 25 limit since we only took 23 I think?

Maybe leaving room to load up next year with a couple extra guys?

stop with the senseless sunshine pumping and blowing smoke up everyones ass. Some of you continue to post these unsubstantiated outlandish claims about how great the next coach is and how superior his recruiting will be blah blah. You are wrong and after coming up with every known excuse we just move on to the next hire AND it starts all over again. Smh.

Educate ourselves on what exactly?

Everyone knew he was stepping into a tough situation.

Everyone knows the class could have been better.

Some prefer the silver lining. Others prefer the clouds.

I didn't read the article and probably won't read the thread.

Been a Pruitt proponent since the announcement of his hiring.

Don't want to hear excuses or apologies.

Get 'er done, or get gone.

I think everyone got their hopes up after all the 5* guys that were at one point or another thought to be strong leans. When we missed on all of them it was a bit of a letdown.

We took 22 because there were 3 from last year's class that counted against this one.
