A lot has been said about the Haslam influence and how it was weakened during the recent AD transition. Other donors (Anderson, Thornton, Ergen) stepped to the plate.

However, I understand that a big academic donor was upset at the path UT football was on. He was encouraged by the academic oriented administration to talk to Fulmer. I was told he put up an amount that is between $4M and $5M per year for hiring assistant coaches. Looking at the staff, it shows!

I truly don't understand why some believe the pocketbooks have been opened. The difference between what was paid on assistants last year and what has been allocated this year is not significant.

How do we even know how much has been allocated for assistants?

The big difference is the "control." Fulmer knew what it was like to have to run everything by "daddy warbucks" to hire an assistant. He wrested control from him and Dr Kao created a "pool" of $ to spend where Coach Pruitt felt appropriate.

Last year we had an assistant pool around $4.75 million. We were ranked 9th at that time. So $5 million is not a significant difference, but it does help pad some salaries. The new figures takes us to 5th in the country.

Totally agree however if he doesn't come back w/ some vindictive covert ish I'll be very surprise. Till now he's operated pretty openly and no one has stood up to him, ever.

I don't think he's done but I hope so. The fraud trial is probably working in our favor for now.

I based mine off USA Today's assistant coach salaries. It has us a 5th in country when you organize it by total assistant pay.

I miscounted, because even though I was looking at total asst. salary, I kept seeing teams listed more than once.

I am still disappointed in total asst. salary, because of the schools ahead of us, we are paying the least toward head coach. Imo, if paying least for head coach, we should make up for that by paying most for asst. coaches.

Completely agree. But I'd imagine we would not turn somebody away if we needed a little extra money.

Unless some announcements were made today I didn’t think any of the staff were officially on the payroll yet. So how does anyone know exactly what they are being paid?

The official roles and salaries have not been released, but Coach Pruitt negotiated a $5 million pool for assistants. We are assuming he will use all of it in fulfilling his staff.
