It is his agent :)

Simpletons and sunshine pupmers: Please stop the insanity .... There needs to better than a sub .500 record (SEC) before we start these stupid threads!

So you sir mr Hartup know more than Dave Hart ok. Maybe you should quit selling cars for a living and become the AD.

We are in the best spot we have been in since the idiots were screaming fire Fulmer.

And we are on the rise.

What other reason is needed?

There's a lot of validity in what you are saying, and at the end of the day stability is the major problem we have had since Fulmer was canned after the 2008 season. I personally saw a lot of on the field progress from year one to year 2. I saw older lesser talented players get replaced by younger more athletic players (except on the O-line). I saw UT claw its way back against arguably the best team in the nation when we played Alabama and gave them a run for their money. I think if Hart thinks Butch is his guy then do what it takes to keep him. I noticed the business owner gave his take about how he gave raises. But every industry is different. And I think the money is nuts what these guys are getting paid. But the market is dictating if you want your team to compete, the powers that be have to pony up the cash.

Agree with all of this and especially the bold part, that's why I am not arguing against a raise.

The improvement defensively was incredible from 13 to 14, I think lack of depth got to them down the stretch though.

Simply don't agree with using Dooley ( not saying that you are by any stretch but a lot on here are) as a baseline of what the job expectation should be at UT.

And Jones is doing a good job overall. Not arguing with anyone on that either. It could have been better though on offense. No one can say otherwise.

He doesn't need some half baked post on VN trumpeting he sold more tickets than Vandy to justify whatever raise/extension he gets IMO.

Have a good one.

You don't even have to maintain a valid point anymore since you employed American Pig's methods. Anybody disagrees with you? You go with the "you aren't answering my question" stab and then coupe de grace with the "you're not even giving an opinion"...and to piss on the corpse you give them a grade...salud...:clapping:

You're incredibly boring at this point.

Also by my logic, your reading comprehension sucks. I said more than he should get a raise for recruiting. But you chose to selectively target one part of my post to put yourself over and feel clever for a brief moment.

Now let's look at what the crux of your reply is. First paragraph, never said that. Was pointing out that we are bringing in top tier talent under Jones and realistically it will take a couple of years before we have blue chip talent as upperclassmen. Unless you lived under a rock, we played one of the toughest schedules in the nation with a bunch of freshmen, sophomores, and a walk on playing on one leg.

The spending money argument is dumb. The coaches salary is generated through the athletic department. While big money donors pitch into the kitty, a lot of times that goes towards upgrades to the facilities and other functions related to the athletic program. You also fail to factor in the difference in revenue that is brought in since Butch Jones has been the coach. Attendance, merchandise sales, concessions, even local businesses around campus and the strip have benefited from the job Butch has done at getting our brand out. You want to try and sound like an adult who understands business, look at the whole picture not some regurgitated tired ole garbage that the old and miserable continue to repeat.

Again, you use your linear thinking to oversimplify what I said. You along with the know it all 'restaurant owner' need to learn to look at what you are actually reading before responding. It really makes the both of you look like simpletons. Of course recruiting only doesn't equate to giving a guy a raise. But an intelligent person could analyze what Butch walked into. Notice all of the changes in the program and around the program (including raising the APR, uniting past Vols who were treated poorly by Dooley, getting the in state high school coaches back on board with UT being the state school, etc.) It's not just one thing that Butch has done to make the environment conducive for winning, it's everything. And until you and Mel's Diner can wrap your brain's around why Hart needed to pony up some cash then there is nothing left to discuss. I just hope I don't see some dumbass petition floating around from unathletic boobs who happened to have a little money in their pockets and support a sport they barely understand.
It never ceases to amaze me at how arrogant some people can be. You just go ahead and stroke your own ego. I'm not gonna counter each of your points because I don't have the time nor do I think you have the capacity to read with an open mind.

But the next time you feel like insulting someone's intelligence you might want to stop and ask yourself if you would actually speak to someone that way in person.

I don't think I ever referred to anything that you posted as, dumb, know it all, a simpleton, possibly unintelligent, a possible unathletic boob, etc I simply addressed the points that I had a differing opinion on.

It takes a weak person and an even weaker mind to use ridicule as a diversion.

Lol. Playing the martyr now? To me that's weak. Giving a resume about your career on an internet message board is also weak. And if you made your initial comment in person, I would have no problem saying what I said on the message board to your face.

Which that comment alone was a deflection of what we were talking about. So you're a hypocrite too, which is a weakness. I don't think you're a corporate bigwig. If you were you wouldn't have 'arrogantly' said as much on an anonymous internet sports message board. So you're a phony as well. That's a weakness.

See that's how you stay on topic. Nothing I've said has been diversionary, only in your own eyes. And by the way, how long does it take you to type posts? This one took me less than a minute. I guess your 'secretary' was busy with other clients.

Don't mind him. He's all about being condescending when things are going his way in the argument.

Others have said this already on this thread, and I have said it before elsewhere, but it bares repeating for me:

I am good with a raise, even a lofty one. However, I'm not sure locking Tennessee into keeping him until 2020 is a good idea. Recruiting is huge, yes, but wins are even bigger, and those have not come yet. If another team comes calling and slaps money on the table to steal him, a buyout is not going to change their desire (Look at Florida and Colorado St's dealings). However, if Jones is still only managing only 6 or 7 wins come 2016, Tennessee just made replacing Jones just that much more expensive.
