Does 0-2 vs Georgia, 0-2 vs Florida, 0-2 vs Alabama, 0-2 vs Missouri, 0-1 vs Auburn, 0-1 vs Ole Miss, and 1-1 vs Vanderbilt mean anything?[/QUOTE
Do you think Coach Majors was a good coach? Simple yes or no will do.
Go back and check his record against those teams, excluding Vandy when he first came to UT. In fact, he lost to Ky and Ole Miss his first year in 1977. The only team in the SEC he beat was Vandy that year. Lost to FL also.
It does take a while to get players.
And I think Coach Majors is a fine coach.

Below is a comparison of SEC coaches that will show you a little comparison of Value per coach on (REVENUE ONLY FOR TICKET SALES). Please feel free to tear it apart but numbers don't lie. Again this is not based on wins or losses just money which most AD's look at from time to time.

Coaching Salary Compaired to ticket sales of average attendance per game for 8 home games and avg of $60 per ticket.

Head Coach School Salary/ticket sales
1.Nick Saban Alabama $5.62 mil/48.6 mil
2.Kevin Sumlin Texas A&M $5 mil/50.1 mil
3.Les Miles LSU $4.3 mil/48.7 Mil
4.Steve Spurrier South Carolina $4.0 mil/39.7 Mil
5.Gus Malzahn Auburn $3.85 mil/41.9 mil
6.Bret Bielema Arkansas $3.2 mil/31.7 mil
7.Mark Richt Georgia $3.2 mil/44.5/mil
8.Gary Pinkel Missouri $3.1 mil/29.9 mil
9.Hugh Freeze Ole Miss $3.0 mil/30.7
10.Will Muschamp Florida $3.0 mil/40.6
11.Butch Jones Tennessee $3.0 mil/48.5 mil
12.Dan Mullen Mississippi State $2.65 mil/35.7 mil
13.Derek Mason Vandy $2.25 mil/17.1 mil
14.Mark Stoops Kentucky $2.2 mil/25.5 mil

So with these numbers here are the most profiting coaches per ticket sales in order from best value to worst.

1.Kevin Sumlin Texas A&M $5 mil/50.1 mil=45.6 mil
2.Butch Jones Tennessee $3.0 mil/48.5 mil=45.5 mil
3.Les Miles LSU $4.3 mil/48.7 Mil=44.4 mil
4.Nick Saban Alabama $5.62 mil/48.6 mil=42.9 mil
5.Mark Richt Georgia $3.2 mil/44.5/mil=41.3 mil
6.Gus Malzahn Auburn $3.85 mil/41.9 mil=38.0 mil
7.Will Muschamp Florida $3.0 mil/40.6=37.7 mil
8.Steve Spurrier South Carolina $4.0 mil/39.7 Mil=35.7 mil
9.Dan Mullen Mississippi State $2.65 mil/35.7 mil=33.0 mil
10.Bret Bielema Arkansas $3.2 mil/31.7 mil
11.Hugh Freeze Ole Miss $3.0 mil/30.7=28.5 mil
12.Gary Pinkel Missouri $3.1 mil/29.9 mil-26.8 mil
13.Mark Stoops Kentucky $2.2 mil/25.5 mil=23.27 mil
14.Derek Mason Vandy $2.25 mil/17.1 mil=14.8 mil

2012 Derek Dooley
2.0 mil/43.1 mil/41.1mil =Still went off $60 dollar avg. and should have went off $50 due to ticket price increase.

Butch Jones is making the University 4.4 mil more per year just off ticket sales alone!

This obviously does not take into account money for coaching pool, bowl money, consession sales or apperal sales. Dave Hart's job is to make sure we are making money. Butch Jones could stand to make 4.0 per year and still be the second best value in the SEC per revenue on ticket sales alone. So tell me again why he does not deserve a raise?

:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:
What drives ticket sells is WINS on the football field. In no way should your chart determine the raise for Butch.

He deserves a raise for the improvement and potential he is showing, NOT ticket sales!!!

Did Ole Miss have the 2nd hardest schedule in the nation his 2nd year? Did Freeze have to replace both lines his 2nd year? Not all situations are the same. Acting as if all teams play the same schedule with the same set of circumstances is not being intellectually honest.

So what will be the excuse next year? You can't make more than Gus Malzahn when he took Auburn to the Championship last year and only lost by 3 points. Butch isn't under paid for his performance... If he wins 9-10 games next year, make him the highest paid coach in the SEC, but not before. If he gets a raise now, 8 wins next year just isn't going to cut it... Not to mention forcing the band to play less and blaring rap music all the time.... Just for the unbearable changes he's made to Neyland's atmosphere he should bring home 10-11 wins...

In other words, one way to get a raise is to get better at your job, another is if your job simply becomes more valuable. And the way you know your job is more valuable is that everyone else who does it has been making more, so...

Unless everyone else, who is making more, is performing better...

The Kentucky loss in 1977 was not a bad loss. UK won the SEC Championship that year.

Possibly, regardless with this upcoming raise, anything less than a 10 win season is unacceptable...

7.Mark Richt Georgia $3.2 mil/44.5/mil

Tell me why Jones should make more than Richt, Pinkel, Freeze, or Mullen who have built winning programs... Stoops had one less win than Butch, and made $800,000 less. If Butch wants to make more than Mullen, it's time for a 2 loss season next year.. We shouldn't pay based on revenue, we should pay based on performance...

You are obviously barking up the wrong tree thinking I am defending a raise for Jones. And I completely ripped on the OP.

I don't think he deserves one.

Recruiting well, keeping players out of trouble and going to class should be givens for any head coach.

The results on the field are middling at best but there are signs that there is incremental improvement.

I think however that, given the climate in today's coaching landscape, Hart and the brain trust will give him one as a knee jerk reaction to other programs and the fear of having to go through another coaching search.

And frankly, given Hart's last two attempts at that, I'd rather go with the known quantity of Jones over the unknown.

Just accept it and move on. That's my advice.

One day I hope all of VolNation will find joy in our football program. But seeing how it would probably require about five consecutive years of going undefeated and bringing home the National Championship every year, every major award, the top ten picks in every NFL Draft, rainbows over the stadium every game day, and the Universities of Alabama, and Florida disappearing from the earth, I guess it will never happen. Happy Holidays VolNation. God bless all of you.

Freeze actually had the 9th toughest schedule his 2nd season in 2013.

While Jones and UT are at 7th for his second season 2014.
