because they don't want to risk the injury....can we finally let that tired argument go?

The reason star DB's like Cam, Javier Arenas, Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, etc return punts is because the coaches realize that excellence in the punt return game can literally win games for you. The benefits of getting the ball into these playmakers' hands certainly outweighs the small risk of injury.

It should now be easy to see that point. Cam's punt return TD against Vandy last year turned out to be the difference in the game, and without his electric returns in the first half today who knows where the momentum of the game would have gone?

So here's to many more gamebreaking returns from Cam. :toast:

I always school my head at those people. He was huge in the return game

It would be great to have someone dedicated to the return game but whoever can make big returns and has good hands needs to field punts, regardless of their importance on the field elsewhere.

You're absolutely right, he should have had 6 on that one! Even my 7 year old looked over at me and said "Dad he should have kept running to the outside."
Unfortunately cam doesn't play game on the couch with instant replay. Give him a break he didn't see the cut at game speed on field

He's a weapon...first since CP...but so is Berry now.

He's not at any more risk than when he's throwing down the hammer on some poor, defenseless RB... see end of first half

I'm one of those that doesn't like him back there..he had to sit out a series to rest and that was when BG took it down the field and scored to make it 21-20

I sure hope our secondary plays better next week or it could be ugly; bad enough as it was. I couldn't believe they caught so many long passes. As it turns out a good win but BG sure didn't look like a push-over to me. I'm a lot more concerned now about the OU game.

BG returned all 11 starters from last year on offense. They weren't a push over on offense.

Cam has swivel, he's great back there. But he misread that first return by turning back into the middle of the field. That was mindboggling.

BTW, his first round status is guaranteed.

Didn't watch the whole game but when I did, Cam would return a punt from their side of the field to ours and usually within FG range. Wtf cares is he scores he puts the offense in great position to.

Favorite vol and it ain't close

he looked great returning punts against BGU,but remember last year at all the ones that he just fair caught ? I have no idea why he has changed his approach this year

but he looks damn fine at it,I do worry that he will get injured on a punt return and we all know,he won't be an easy one to replace in the secondary if he goes down

I was hoping that CBJ could find somebody else to handle punt returns and not have to use Sutton, but evidently CBJ couldn't or won't

It makes me a little nervous, but if he can continue to gain big yardage and flip the field, taking that chance could prove to pay huge dividends throughout the season.

Last year he looked a little uncomfortable fielding them, hence all the fair catches. I remember a few times he would call for a fair catch, misjudge it then have to make a diving catch. He seems to have fully gained confidence back there now, the long punts aside, he just looked far more comfortable.

I do have to say that he has a lot of confidence Jerry and looked pretty damn good doing it

I've always said I didn't want him returning but that's because of depth. If we had the CBs to spare then sure. It doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching him be a weapon.

it was good to see him run with reckless abandon and it was scary seeing him run with reckless abandon too
