I think everyone is just upset with how far we have slid down, and we know how hard it is to get back up. It seems that we are just slipping on jagged rocks while our rivals do nothing but get better and better.
It's tough to be a Vols football fan right now. It's been tough for a while and it's going to be tough for a while, no doubt about it. Our rivals are just too good for us to be mediocre and continuously finish ahead of them. We play the BEST teams in the country every single season, and our program has fallen quite a bit.
Will we eventually be back to where we want to be? Yes, we will. But it's going to take time. Just look at Alabama. It took well over a decade for them to be competitive again. Sometimes it's just hard to be positive. We just need to focus on what we have going for us, what's coming in the future, and hopefully a stable coaching staff will bring it all together. Go Big Orange.
Ive noticed that a lot of people are acting like every thing in tennessee football is going down and we have no upside. Does nobody remember that we hav a top ten recruting class comming in? I do, and I think that some of them will have an imidiate impact. Da'Rick ring a bell?
we have no upside right now, with florida and bama on the schedule. dark days ahead for the vols.
A shrink might say that your avatar says alot about your outlook on life.
Why did you pick a hot girl with her legs clearly closed instead of open?
Even when picking avatars you feel defeated don't you???
Winning games and being able to beat your chest as you hurl insults at other SEC schools is great, but I mostly watch Tennessee football to see character and hard work on display. As long as I get to see some young men pour their hearts out for the orange and white and compete to their absolute limits, then the outcome of the game is secondary. Of course it makes it more fun to win, but it's also fun to watch character and growth.
i love all these "rally the troops" threads....
i support dooley, but this extremely slow start to recruiting for '11 has me concerned to say the least
you make some good points in your post. Alums like myself are just plain tired of mediocrity. Fulmer in his later years was a shell of a coach and just could not compete. Kiffin was a breathe of fresh air compared to Fulmer and people like myself bought in hook, line, and sinker. What was once stale become fresh, in your face excitement and you can say what you want but Kiffin and company are recruiting machines and people lovd that. Exit Kiffin and in comes Dooley? Who the hell is this guy, he makes Fulmer look exciting and he comes from a program that we have laughed at over the years. Most fans are like in shock and angry that this could happen. We have no clue what we have in this guy, good, bad, indifferent his HC record is what it is. He learned from a great coach but he is no Nick Saban so the point is who is he? Can he recruit? Can we have a competitive product and the answer is who knows. I absolutely reject he had a top 10 class, Kiffins EE made this class plain and simple. Nice pick up with Rogers, Hunter and Stone however. Anyway he is as exciting as the gum on my shoe, but that doesn't matter if he can recruit and coach and no one knows. I am not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for no reason.

Here's a post from VolunteerHillbilly in the recruiting section that should ease your concerns a bit...
I decided to look back over the last few years to see whether this is really a big deviation from what we've seen on the Hill lately.
By April 19, 2009 the Vols had one commit for the 2010 class, Jacques Smith. Who later decomitted before recomitting, if I recall correctly.
By April 19, 2008 the Vols had zero commits for the 2009 class.
By April 19, 2007 the Vols had four commits for the 2008 class, two of whom (Anderson and Bartholemew) were legacies.
By April 19, 2006 the Vols had four commits for the 2007 class, legacy Sawtelle and virtual legacy Campbell (godson of Joey Kent) plus hometown kid A. Anderson.
If you want to go as far back as the 2006 class, you will see more early commits. The last time UTK had a pre-April 19 commit from a prospect that really fired up the fanbase was probably Ainge, or maybe Coker a year later?
It seems to me that one question we should be asking is whether there are any solid prospects who are Knoxville area kids, or legacies, and who grew up as Vols fans, and have been offered by Dooley's staff, and who have not indicated a strong interest in comitting. It seems to me that these are the kinds of prospects that we could reasonably expect to get commitments from at this time. If there are no such prospects out there this year, then I don't think we can reasonably expect much right now.
