I like DD and hope he does great here but with our resources and having to get a coach from a La Tech still sticks in mine a little.

I think everyone is just upset with how far we have slid down, and we know how hard it is to get back up. It seems that we are just slipping on jagged rocks while our rivals do nothing but get better and better.

It's tough to be a Vols football fan right now. It's been tough for a while and it's going to be tough for a while, no doubt about it. Our rivals are just too good for us to be mediocre and continuously finish ahead of them. We play the BEST teams in the country every single season, and our program has fallen quite a bit.

Will we eventually be back to where we want to be? Yes, we will. But it's going to take time. Just look at Alabama. It took well over a decade for them to be competitive again. Sometimes it's just hard to be positive. We just need to focus on what we have going for us, what's coming in the future, and hopefully a stable coaching staff will bring it all together. Go Big Orange.

Very Well Said:good!:

Ive noticed that a lot of people are acting like every thing in tennessee football is going down and we have no upside. Does nobody remember that we hav a top ten recruting class comming in? I do, and I think that some of them will have an imidiate impact. Da'Rick ring a bell?

Yes, please sign me up for your brilliant insight about UT football.

we have no upside right now, with florida and bama on the schedule. dark days ahead for the vols.

A shrink might say that your avatar says alot about your outlook on life.

Why did you pick a hot girl with her legs clearly closed instead of open?

Even when picking avatars you feel defeated don't you???

Just out of curiosity, how is it possible for your three favorite teams to be Tennessee, Florida, and Bama? Really?

A shrink might say that qualifies me as insane.

Winning games and being able to beat your chest as you hurl insults at other SEC schools is great, but I mostly watch Tennessee football to see character and hard work on display. As long as I get to see some young men pour their hearts out for the orange and white and compete to their absolute limits, then the outcome of the game is secondary. Of course it makes it more fun to win, but it's also fun to watch character and growth.

This:thumbsup:

Slow start ???

I believe I read where CDD & company had 50 kids we're recruiting at the O & W game.

LOTS of months left before NSD gets here and I don't expect a top 10 signing class since CDD & company will actually go after players to fill our roster NEEDS like O & D linemen instead of just QB's, RB's and WR's just to get higher star rankings like X did and did NOT fill our Linemen NEEDS just to pad his resume'.

GO BIG ORANGE !!!

you make some good points in your post. Alums like myself are just plain tired of mediocrity. Fulmer in his later years was a shell of a coach and just could not compete. Kiffin was a breathe of fresh air compared to Fulmer and people like myself bought in hook, line, and sinker. What was once stale become fresh, in your face excitement and you can say what you want but Kiffin and company are recruiting machines and people lovd that. Exit Kiffin and in comes Dooley? Who the hell is this guy, he makes Fulmer look exciting and he comes from a program that we have laughed at over the years. Most fans are like in shock and angry that this could happen. We have no clue what we have in this guy, good, bad, indifferent his HC record is what it is. He learned from a great coach but he is no Nick Saban so the point is who is he? Can he recruit? Can we have a competitive product and the answer is who knows. I absolutely reject he had a top 10 class, Kiffins EE made this class plain and simple. Nice pick up with Rogers, Hunter and Stone however. Anyway he is as exciting as the gum on my shoe, but that doesn't matter if he can recruit and coach and no one knows. I am not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for no reason.

I don't think he cares + you've got no choice.

Well since this thread was talking about the incoming class I feel like I should hit on the freshman and now after spring practice where I see some of them fitting in and contributing.

QB - this is obvious, it looks as if Tyler if he puts on weight and continues to progress at the rate he is will be the starter for this team at some point pretty early in the season.

RB- I am starting to believe that Neal could come in and jump Oku and Williams in the RB rotation. Oku looks to be a specialty back still at this point and I think Neal has more talent than Williams.

TE- Mychial Rivera could come in and be the 2nd best TE on the roster.

WR- Matt Milton looks as if he has solidified a position as a contributer in the WR core. And I do believe that if Da'Rick gets in it will be impossible to keep him off the field.

Oline- Stone and Fulton will come in and immiediatly push both of the Guard positions. They may not pass them but will be in the 2 deep.

Dline- Corey Miller and Jac Smith look to have cracked the DE rotation and could both have multiple big plays this season. John Brown if qualified will come in and will be right behind Walls and Hughes in the DT rotation.

Secondary - Clark and Loften could both get in the two deep of the secondary or possibly push for a starting position.

That is 12 Freshman that I see getting sustained playing time this fall...that is alot to build on for the future, not to mention there will probably be multiple others that get some time in the blowouts and on Special teams!

Here's a post from VolunteerHillbilly in the recruiting section that should ease your concerns a bit...

I decided to look back over the last few years to see whether this is really a big deviation from what we've seen on the Hill lately.

By April 19, 2009 the Vols had one commit for the 2010 class, Jacques Smith. Who later decomitted before recomitting, if I recall correctly.

By April 19, 2008 the Vols had zero commits for the 2009 class.

By April 19, 2007 the Vols had four commits for the 2008 class, two of whom (Anderson and Bartholemew) were legacies.

By April 19, 2006 the Vols had four commits for the 2007 class, legacy Sawtelle and virtual legacy Campbell (godson of Joey Kent) plus hometown kid A. Anderson.

If you want to go as far back as the 2006 class, you will see more early commits. The last time UTK had a pre-April 19 commit from a prospect that really fired up the fanbase was probably Ainge, or maybe Coker a year later?

It seems to me that one question we should be asking is whether there are any solid prospects who are Knoxville area kids, or legacies, and who grew up as Vols fans, and have been offered by Dooley's staff, and who have not indicated a strong interest in comitting. It seems to me that these are the kinds of prospects that we could reasonably expect to get commitments from at this time. If there are no such prospects out there this year, then I don't think we can reasonably expect much right now.

I am a fan and will be a fan even through the rough times. With that being said I see this team somewhere around .500 in wins this season. If this years incoming crop of O-lineman all turn into SEC caliber players we will start to see a resurgence of this program over the next 2 to 3 years. If not it will take longer.

I just don't see that placing unrealistic expectations on this team does us any good.
