Football Xs and Os regarding Georgia

Thanks for the reply.

Do you think the uncharacteristic play of UGA was more about bad luck or did ND do things which contributed? Did UGA play tighter or press as the game 'got away" from them, for example?
The NO experience was a complete train wreck from a UGA point of view. 1st you had a kid making his first start vs a stout D and UGA was always going to try to win a physical slugfest as opposed to airing it out. Next the game was delayed by a day due to the terror attack and the UGA coaching staff was distracted due to Sonny Smart (Kirby's dad) falling and breaking his hip which would end up being fatal.

Now, I give ND all the credit for winning the game because they won the rock fight but that wasn't the same team you guys faced in Athens for a lot of reasons. Having said that, the Dawgs have been somewhat sloppy in the first 2 games vs mega cupcakes. If that was anything other than Kirby using the day to evaluate depth players, you guys may be toting goal posts to the river again.

Based on Visidog's description of the ND-UGa game, doesn't sound like they present us with a template we can use. I mean, we are a running team, but we're not a plodding, ball-control kind of offense. We're a very different team than that.

So we're just gonna have to figure out and do it our way.

Go Vols!
I think the way we beat them is doing what we did to Bama in 2022. We need to come out swinging and build an early lead. It will keep the crowd in it and force them to throw.

Our D isn’t as good or deep as ND’s defense from last season our defense isn’t as good as our defense was last year. Georgia will run at us and thru us on Saturday. Syracuse ran and passed on us i expect Georgia will do the same. We will probaly make Gunner look like Aaron Murray on saturday. We really miss Omari and Pierce

I saw a quote from Watson Brown that this will be a typical SEC slugfest, where physicality--not Xs and Os--determines the winner.

He said SEC programs know each other inside/out, so surprises are few.

I'll add the thought that when you look at how these games have been called in the past by referees, they also have rewarded (or not penalized) physicality over finesse, especially in the defensive backfield.

But the irony is, physicality doesn't seem to be rewarded when it comes to offensive holding against fast, physical pass rushers.

The success of our defense rests in the play of the LBs and the defensive Secondary. I hope we don't play a lot of Zone in this game...

UT's defense couldn't get the job done defensively against Carson Beck last year or in 2023. Beck had time to throw in both of those games and absolutely torched us. If UT is going to win this game it feels like Banks is going to have to scheme up the defense forcing Stockton to beat us throwing the ball. That is the big question, can he? The problem is we were unable to get pressure with our front 4 against a very good UGA OL in the previous matchup and banks dropped the rest in coverage. Can we get to the QB this game?
If we don't we are beat, we must get pressure if we have to blitz to do it.

As the old saying goes . . . The greatest predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

We have not moved the ball well on UGA’s stout defense. We have not been able to stop their run or consistently pressure their QB.

Until I see those things change . . . I don’t see a win. At some point UT will beat UGA . . . But I think for it to happen this year we have to have some luck and turnovers.

UGA is gonna play press man coverage and PI on every snap like they do every year. This also allows them to blitz without leaving a hole in the defense like blitzing from zone defense would do. Our WRs are gonna HAVE to get open despite being manhandled. Even more important, we have to be able to run the ball consistently. This is the best Oline CJH has had...so hopefully we can run well. Also, if WE aren't cheating with our DBs and doing exactly what UGA is doing then I am gonna be pissed. Its no secret what they do...its all over the podcasts and interviews. They cheat like Hell with their DBs knowing the refs won't throw a flag on EVERY play. Sadly refs allow it. We better reciprocate. GO VOLS

The key to a TN victory will be successfully running the ball when needed and our WRs creating separation. Our TEs will need to contribute as well in the blocking schemes and drag routes.
