Football Rumor Mill...

Im not into starting a "Thread", but Dooley has lost this team. You can look at the way the players react to plays being called, how they hand their heads after a turnover or momentum swing. Ive played ball my entire life and seen ups and downs and this is NOT A GOOD THING FOR TENNESSEE. There is a reason why they regress after halftime, the players dont believe in what is being preached. Just sayin

you may be right

First off, for any of you that are going to make any comments about my lack of posts the hell with you. I follow this team in and out from 750 miles away and I know a "little" about the game. There is zero intensity on this team. Dooley is bringing back the old Fulmer days of clapping when a player makes a boneheaded play. There is no emotion. There is no passion and sorry to say coaching is the problem. A player commits a ridicolous personal foul, sit him for a play. A player drops a couple of balls, sit him for a series. We have actually gone backwards this year. Run blocking is atrocious. There is way too much cockiness on this team. We are an embarrassment. This falls on all the coaching staff but Dooley specifically because he is ultimately in charge. It is a shame that we all have to wait 9 months for the next snap because we couldnt beat the dredge of the S.E.C. East. On the bright side, I just saved myself quite a bit of money because I will not be heading to Nashville for the bowl game. Good riddance.

I'm glad the season's over. This has been the most emotionally draining season that I have ever experienced. I was a Dooley supporter until today, but if you can't get a big-name coach, keep him here.

(1) there seems to be a lot of posters on here who disagree with you on this point the way they keep licking Saban's boots...
They have a right to disagree.

He got the Lousiana Tech job due to his Saban connection.

Saban was a demi-God down there and Louisiana Tech wanted someone affiliated with LSU to recruit the talent LSU passed on. He brought in those guys and a few of our cast-offs in Paige & Creer.

and as for (2) if we hired him based on his dad that was the most stupid thing I could think of Dooley was a good coach who recruited a great running back, but not a GREAT coach...JMHO

I agree.

However, Vince Dooley is one of the most recognizable names in SEC history. He retired before college football became the mega media sensation it became in the 1990's with the TV contracts for schools other than Alabama, Notre Dame, & Southern Cal. So most adult fans today didnt get to see him coach or see the Georgia football program other than when he had Herschel.

Most people outside of TN dont even realize he was apart of Saban's staff at any point.

Even when he was at LSU, he wasn't discussed as an important figure on the staff. How do I know? Because he was in our conference. Im sure a lot of you guys aren't getting short term memory. I remember those LSU teams and I didnt think anything of Dooley's role. He seemed like an interchangable assistant coach, much like Les Miles's RB & QB coaches.

A majority of people just recognize his last name for his father's success.

They make a bigger deal about his time with Saban than his last name. The only time I hear it is when we play Georgia. I agree he wasn't high profile when he was an assistant with Nick , but don't think for a second that isn't in bold print on his resume. He was with him for 6 or 7 years. Longer than anyone I mentioned above.

If we're talking money, the answer is yes. If we're talking about other repercussions, I honestly don't know if we can withstand another one. I guess it would depend on who we got.
Chris Peterson would be good IMO. But you got to throw serious cash his way for him to even consider it. IF (and I doubt this happens) Hart was to pull the trigger he has to have an elite guy ready to sign on the dotted line and not have a bunch of people turn them down.

People are worried about the money and yeah it is a concern but another underachieving season will have an economic impact on the program and the city of Knoxville. It's up to those much wiser than us to evaluate all possibilities and ramifications of each decision though. Bare minimum serious staff changes are going to happen though.

I can see the Dooley name... jsut thought you meant V Dooley was a great coach... Sorry my bad

I just want to see us break ranks from all that and hire a football mind, and great recruiter without giving the Georgia's, Bama, and Florida's part of the credit for our coach....JMHO

Gary Patterson would be a great fit right about now, and it's not like he doesn't have any talent to work with. We've had 2 back to back top 10 recruiting classes even amidst all this turmoil.
If the table is not set for him now, when would it ever?

I've said that his time with Saban at LSU got him the job at Lousiana Tech. Same state & they wanted a connection to Saban's LSU success.

However, I do not believe for 1 instance that a SEC program would've hired a 4-8 coach from Louisiana Tech if his name were Derek Smith rather than Derek Dooley.

He had 0 qualifications for this job.

It isnt any wonder why he wasnt even mentioned as a candidate for this job to replace Fulmer when he won 10 games at Lousiana Tech.

We only hired him because he had a more recognizable name to fans than Troy Calhoun from Air Force and Todd Graham from Tulsa.

Throw serious money at a new OC and assistant coaches. Let CDD make notes on his little pad.
Actually I do like Dooley more as an administrator/recruiter. He recruits well and runs a clean program. Just his game day decisions are garbage at times. We need an OC that is competent though if this ship is to be saved from sinking.

I still can't believe we fired Fulmer!!!
