Football recruiting........

The recruiting services are really just to help me track what is going on . His ACT was a 21 . He is also on hudl and twitter. We are going to camps all summer and we are hoping to get invited to the top 100 camp in Georgia in June.

Sounds good. Is that high enough to get into the places his interesting in? I'm assuming Georgia Tech may need higher, but idk that for a fact. Remember he can always contact coaches at anytime. Have him pursue the teams he wants to play for. You can find email addresses for most staffs on their websites.

Beyond that, it sounds like you guys are doing what you need to do.

Also be aware that coaches have restrictions

Thanks. We have been telling him that it is up to him where he goes.

Just to give an update. He made the NUC top 100 combine for the southeast in June. Hurd, Kelly Jr, and others will be there. We are proud.

MY son is going into his senior year and we are neck deep into his recruiting . Does anyone that has been through it have suggestions? We are with a recruiting service and he has been to camps and combines. He has been invited to the NUC 100 camp. Is there more we can do?
Can you pass along some of your wisdom that has gotten you this far? My son is a rising junior, but missed all of his sophomore year with a torn ACL / MCL. He tore it in the first quarter of the first game :cray:

He plays LB, is 6'1" and 192 lbs and growing. I think he has potential (not D1). Because he missed his entire Sophomore year, there obviously isn't any interest yet. But any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

Best of luck to you and your son! MTSU would be great! We had someone from our team get a scholarship there last year.

Get ready to work. I would of never thought it would take this much effort. The first steps would be see if his coach has any contacts . Then you will need to make him a highlight film. With him being injured last season, do you have anything from spring ball? You just need something. After that start going to as many camps as possible. I will tell you though, if you do not think he is D1 potential I would not mess with the Tennessee camp or Alabama or schools like that. The reason is we have in the past and those bigger SEC schools know who they want and if you do not get invited then you are just a number and a little extra money. Now on the other hand some D1 schools like MTSU will have smaller schools at their camps, because some of the smaller schools (NAIA,D2,D3) can't afford to do camps or just would not have a big turn out. That is a good way to meet them.

Also work on speed, quickness, and his hips (like long and high jump) they want to measure his explosiveness. Strength is a plus but unless you go to a combine most camps do not make them lift. Which hurts us a little because that is one of his strong points. I do suggest going to a combine next spring. There is one called the National UnderClassmen Combine and that is the one we did. They had one in Knoxville,Nashville, and Memphis. They have them rep 185 on bench. Most of the LB's there were repping it about 18-25 times. There is were you can show your strength an did helped my son he repped it 36 times. Is your team set up on Hudl? You will also find recruiting services like NCSA, berecruited.com and others. We are using the berecruited.com. It just helps me keep everything in order and it is a place to put his highlights and academic highlights.

The NCSA is a group that will do all the work for you for a fee. Berecruited cost 20.00 a month and you do all the work where the NCSA is from 700.00 a year to 1600.00 a year.
I like to do things myself so I know what is going on. We have a friend that is doing the NCSA and we have had more contact with coaches than they have. If you need anything else a that I can help with let me know.

Thanks for the insight. Being hurt last year really messed things up and they didn't play a Spring game (long story). I don't have any film, but will obviously have some soon. I basically just want him to get some invites to camps and attend them so they know who he is. He really likes Tenn Tech and Carson Newman.

suggestion 1. Fires the recruiting service.

Suggestion 2. Tell his hc where he wants to go, and ask what he can do to help.

Suggestion 3. Ensure his act/sat scores are top notch. I've seen too many kids who had d1 talent, slip through the cracks because the didn't take the act until they were sr's.

amen!!! You told her dead on truth

all recruiting services are a waste of money.. especially if you're doing ANY of the work yourself.

If a kid has potential to play and has the grades there are several different routes you all have available.

1- your recruiting coordinator at the high schools should be speaking to coaches on your behalf

2- In my area... it may be special, but ALLLLL of our student-athletes have highlight film from every season that our coaching staff takes time and put together for them... Now that may be a perk, so if it isn't like that in your area, I suggest you contact a NATIONAL recruiting service like Gamechangers, ie to follow your kid or hire a videographer. You can find these people through Ryan Callahan and Wes Rucker of 247, Hubbs @ Rivals, Scout.com, and ESPN

3- If you're attending camps, the rankers are there and it's basically up to the kid to perform at his/her highest level; and those people are there to showcase your child

The flip side to that is if your kid is going to too many camps and doesn't do well and his/her grades aren't up to par; then it hurt the kid and you've wasted your money

4- I always suggest to kids / parents.... have your child to take the SAT / ACT multiple times; especially the ACT because it can be broken down into sections for the highest scores

5- Talk to the athletic director and ask if he / she is recording your kid stats. A lot of times kids get overlooked because the AD is NOT on their job.

6- Talk with the recruiting coordinators at every school that your kid is truly interested in attending FIRST. They have more power than the coach in the beginning stages of recruiting...

EXAMPLE: Scott Altizer of Unv Of Tennessee.

Even though we had an offer from UT... as a parent I definitely got to know him first to be certain that my son kept up the requirements other than just having an offer on the table.

Too many times parents think because you have an offer, you're automatically accepted.... you couldn't be more wrong.

I agree with MZTERRY on a lot of this because she has been through it . The only thing that I suggest about the recruiting website I use is it helps me keep everything organized. Our high school coach is not a big help, hopefully yours will be. I would suggest you getting with her and tapping into her knowledge. I probably will also. Thanks MZTERRY!
