I've noticed since the brawl people have posted how bad the UT coach is, how bad the UT athletic director is, calling the UT players thugs. Then they ask what recruits are we getting? I understand that alot of people like to express their opinion, but how are you going to expect any recruit that may want to come to this board to ever want to play for UT. We pretty much destroy the UT athletic department. Yeah the actions of some of the UT players put a black eye on the university but bashing everything about the college also makes recruits turn their back and go elsewhere.

I agree with you about the bashing, but I seriously doubt a recruit makes their decision based upon what is said on a message board.

The Tennessee fans just don't seem to understand how bashing your coach makes recruiting hard. They were bashing Phillip Fulmer when he went 9-3 every year. The way you talk about your coach on these messege boards and on the radio will kill your recruiting, that is what hurt Fulmer the most is no kids wanted to come here after about 2004. We treated Casey Clausen like dirt and Fulmer also. Who in their right mind would play here.

what hurt more was not winning. Boards and the radio just comment on what is current. You're crazy if you think they represent more than a small fraction of UT's actual fanbase

The situation surrounding our football team and our athletic department has 1,000,000 times more influence on recruiting than the message boards.

One would have to be in serious denial to think that potential recruits and their families don't look at these boards. Message boards are probably the most popular thing in our culture right now look at Facebook, Myspace, and countless others. Hell look at us and how much time we spend on here. To think that message boards such as this one doesn't influence decisions is a mistake.

There was a recruit a while back that mentioned volnation, was it Nunes? I can't remember, but it wasn't positive.

Well, they kind of go hand-in-hand, imo. If you are winning, no one is talking bad about the coach, players, AD, recruits, ect. If your losing, people start blaming folks. So, if you win, you don't have to worry about it. The reason most will gripe is bc they want to win.

I've seen overwhelming praise for Dooley's handling of this latest incident, so I don't think we're being negative about the coach. Maybe I've just tuned out the negavols, though. :dunno:

Message boards are one component that many recruits use to assess the institutions they are researching to continue their football careers. It gives them a feel for the fan base of a particular school. But that is only one of many things they consider.

If a recruit has positive marks on his list for everything but fan support from message boards I would be very surprised if they would be a factor that would turn the recruit away from Tennessee.

I know that schools that were recruiting the same players as Tennessee were printing off the negative statements from message boards during the late Fulmer years. They would show it to recruits and tell them fans were pushing to get Fulmer out. It did have negative impacts with some recruits, perhaps many.

All schools monitor message boards of their rival teams to gather negativity towards a school from their fans. They show that to recruits and their families. I'm sure Tennessee has done that as well. It is all part of the recruiting process.

My suggestion is that each individual has to do whatever they feel is best for them. Whatever is said here or other places may have an impact. I doubt anyone can measure how much impact it may have on specific recruits. Most of the time if it is affected recruiting it is like the last several years when the program was down as well as the fans.

Negativity always has potential to have a negative impact.

Dooley hasn't even had a chance to win yet, but there are some who still bash him. The fans need to slow down on the negativity on here. Wait and see how the season plays out. We can't expect them to win them all this year and in reality they will probably be lucky to win half of the games, but we can get an idea at how Coach gets his players ready and how they compete.

you're right we should just talk trash about our players and staff because positivity never got anyone anywhere:eek:k:

yeah that's what I said. I don't do either of the things you mentioned but will question the direction. Saying things like "Coach XYZ is not the man to lead the program anymore" is not trashing the program when it's obvious to all but a select few ostriches.

Will the ostriches approve or disapprove of this message?
