Football Program Under Investigation [merged]

Following the initial report from Saturday, Mark Schlabach of ESPN is reporting that Tennessee’s compliance department is investigating the program for possible impermissible benefits. ESPN is not reporting that the NCAA is investigating the Tennessee program — only that the school’s compliance department is at this point.

According to Schlabach’s report, one issue for Tennessee comes with the recruitment of five-star offensive lineman, Amarius Mims. The Georgia native signed with Kirby Smart’s Georgia program on Wednesday during the Early Signing Period.

The sources told ESPN that Tennessee’s recruitment of Amarius Mims of Cochran, Georgia, the No. 3 offensive tackle and No. 19 player overall in the ESPN 300, is part of the compliance department’s inquiry. Mims signed with Georgia this week.

Well I don't see the obvious connection between Nieds and Mims, could this be where Jay Graham is involved. Surely Graham wouldn't do something just coming off that aTm recruiting debacle.

Nieds was the primary recruiter reported here on VN.

Because a staff is the highest paid in the country, that doesn’t mean big money. Kiffin was no where near top in the country in head coaching pay

Isn't that exactly what that means? Kiffin and his staff's total cost was more than Saban and his entire staff at that time. So we were spending more per year on coaches than Bama. Is that not the very definition of "big money"?

Who should we spend the money on in your opinion? Honest question.

Kiffin was no where near top paid coach in the country. Don’t even think he was top 25

Yes, Kiffin took less so he could bring an elite, highly paid staff. Monte made $1M as his DC, which was A LOT back then. I believe he may have even been the first coordinator to make 7 figures but don't quote me on that. Te total cost of our entire staff, kiffin plus his assistants, cost more than any other coaching staff in the country at that time, including Bama. TN went big with that move and it was considered a great move at the time. Kiffin was 32-33yrs and the hottest young coach in the country, brought his HoF father on as a DC, along with a loaded staff. TN went BIG.

Offer Lincoln Riley the highest salary in the country.

Offer Whittingham top 5 salary in the country

Offer Matt Campbell 7-8 million per season

In my opinion, I would literally start and Riley and make him say no. If he says no, we literally lose nothing and make OU have to give him a raise.

We had Whittingham once and Anderson nixed the hire because he is Mormon.

Riley is a pipe dream.

Campbell is a great coach. He makes $3M. Agreed, go offer him $6M. Make him say no.

Riley is a pipe dream because we don’t have stones to offer him a 10 million dollar deal to find out an answer from him.

TN went big and it backfired. Agreed to ridiculous contracts with the lot, not money, but buyouts. Lame's reciprocal buyout was not high enough and the other coaches were not necessary with the salaries they had. It was the height of Hamilton's stupidity. He bet the farm on a young coach and didn't have the ability to retain him. Totally stupid.

Agreed. Hamilton and the lawyers advising him failed at protecting the program. We shouldn't let that stop us from going big again though

For all that are wondering about this picture now. The outfit and the money are a prop for a local photographer in Ocala (Brian’s hometown). The photographer was just getting started at this time and aimed his efforts at local, up and coming college prospects. Not his money (not even real) and not given to him by the university.

I don't agree. He has nothing to gain from coming here. He is already at an elite program making $6.5M/yr

While constantly making no major progressions in getting to the Natty. OU loves getting to playoff on weak scheduling and then getting blownout.

He’s basically Dabo-lite where he’s a coach of a school that constantly wins the conference but doesn’t actually win anything in postseason.

Worst case, we offer 10 million and he says no and OU gives him a raise.

If he says yes, we literally shock the nation and steal a top 5 coach.

Yes. And it's not the real issue being looked into

Hey, I am down with it. At least it shows the fanbase the program is trying, right.

I say go offer Matt Campbell $6M-7M

Go offer Herman some money. He doesn't want to be in Texas anymore. He wins 8+ games a year, is still young.

Herman doesn’t win anything though. Riley just wins the conference every year.

Campbell is in interesting spot as he has topped out and reached his ceiling in Ames

But Herman kisses his players... so weird. I can’t get past it

We need to get to consistently winning 8-9 games. Herman won ships at Houston and played for one at Texas. He is a massive upgrade
