You are moving a little too fast based on the information which is currently publicly available about this (very little). It is something to keep an eye on this week. If Pruitt is fired? Then there is likely something to this.
Not really. Whenever Tennessee football has been under investigation in the past, it's always been when we were at least mediocre - the Jack Sells situation in 1990, "Tutorgate" in 1999 and Kiffin's "Orange Pride" girls in 2009. This would be a new low... Someone compared it to getting caught cheating on a test you flunked anyway. Yeah, that's about right. It would be a very Tennessee thing for us to be busted for cheating and only winning 3 games as result.
There isn't any smoke yet. You are getting way ahead of yourself on this.Smoke, there's fire. Even if postseason is steep, a half dozen scholarships could go out the window. Then again, if enrollment is down across the board, Vols might make out like bandits on this.
My biggest concern is Fulmer. What was his role in this? Complicit? Damage control?
Not necessarily. Wouldn't let the fear of NCAA keep us from hiring a coach. We did that with Pearl and he's doing his thing with an SEC rival. Pruitt's problem is that he still thinks he's at Bama where they always look the other way. We hire Freeze and he's going to know eyes are upon him and his efforts. He's well aware of how to swim in those waters. I'd hire him in a nano second. Same for Kiffin. I'm not looking for a saint. I want a damned football coach.Exactly. No chance Freeze is the next hire now.
Geez, if you're gonna cheat, have the results to back it up. A 3-6 record isn't cheat or even investigation worthy. It's not like there's any kind of return on that "investment."
Meanwhile, the major violations being committed across college athletes that truly benefit programs will continue to occur without penalty.
