Football isn’t happening...

I saw an article yesterday that said the Coronavirus antibodies may disappear 2 to 3 months after people recover

Coronavirus antibodies may disappear 2 to 3 months after people recover, a new study found

and the NHL playoff may be in jeopardy due to 3 players and 2 staff of the Tampa Bay Lightning test postive

Coronavirus: Five members of Tampa Bay Lightning test positive

Going to very interesting Fall and Winter season

Lol!

If antibodies disapear in a few months after recovery then a vaccine will never truly be effective. Might as well just move on with our lives.

Well, we cannot know that. The fact is the mortality rate is down 90% from its peak in April. Don't look for this information from the media. Daily COVID-19 Deaths in the U.S. Have Fallen Dramatically Since April

What do you mean? The fact that we know mortality has dropped is because the media has reported on it. You don't catch covid and, if you are one of the unlucky ones, immediately drop dead. It takes four or five weeks to die from this disease. So the vulnerable folks who got sick four or five weeks ago, when daily cumulative cases were low, are the ones showing up in the death tallies today. Four or five weeks from today, daily mortality could be right back where it was in April and May due to the surge in our daily case numbers that we are seeing this week. Death is a lagging indicator.

What media? I sure haven't seen this trumpeted on CNN. If the mortality rate were constant compared to the infection rate, the deaths would track the infections, even on a lagging basis, but that is obviously not happening. The infection rate has been consistently increasing even as the mortality rate has been consistently declining. The number of people dying from Covid peaked in April. Over 2 months ago. There are reports that the virus appears to be losing its power, plus there are better therapies for treatment too. Probably a combination of the two. We won't really know how all this shakes out until its "over."

I mean...As Covid-19 cases rise among younger adults, expect a lower death rate for now, says former CDC director - CNN

The virus is not "losing its power" we are just uncovering more cases with mild illness. And though a promising steroid is being deployed in some countries to treat people on ventilators, it doesn't have much utility for people who don't have severe illness. I don't know of any other treatment that has shown to be effective.

Is this because God doesn't want Tennessee football to be great again? Because it seems like God doesn't want Tennessee football to be great again. He even removed my ability for blue font.

It's atleast been proven to a point that it's 25% above the actual number that people are being told by the news and what not. Colorado was the first state to differentiate the deaths and their Chinese Virus death toll dropped 25%. Several doctors in new York city, on up to Maine have even said ventilators only save roughly 9% to 25% of the people that are on them as well. Hell I know a guy that had it and didn't even know he had it. It truly just depends on your preexisting conditions if it hits you harder.

Not necessarily. An adjuvant could be used or a different virus to enhance the immune response for longer lasting protection...does not guarantee that it would work, but other strategies can exist to get a stronger immune reaction and longer immune system memory....

...that being said, my best guess is that influenza vaccines may also include COVID-19 in them or you get two shots each fall.

If you need a seasonal shot for corona virus I would agree that it should just be combined with the flu shot. I would also state that only the vulnerable would need these vaccines. Why we some are freaking out over athletes testing positive is beyond me. These people are in the best shape of their lives. Some coaches may need to take precautions though.

So far as we know, no corona viruses stay around forever anyways. We shall see.

This is not completely accurate. Some deaths may take a while. Most are going to occur in people with other severe comorbidities.

If you have stats proving what you say I would be glad to see them.

It is unlikely that an effective vaccine will ever be found for Covid-19. The better investment is in treatments.

Yes, I probably said that wrong. The virus probably isn't losing potency, but has merely claimed the weakest part of the population first. This is Farr's law of epidemics. The mortality tends to follow a bell curve.

well I agree with Farr's basic conclusion that mortality lags in step with case-load. The difference here is that historical smallpox outbreaks are constrained by some degree of acquired immunity in the general population. Relatively few people have acquired immunity to this disease and there is some doubt about the human immune system's ability to acquire lasting immunity absent a vaccine. Studies suggest that antibodies only last a matter of weeks after infection. Under a best case scenario, the epidemic curve would naturally peak at 95% of the population absent public health interventions.

That contradicts what medical professionals are saying. Just yesterday it was announced that 100,000 doses of an effective vaccine are expected in November or December.

That would be terrific... do you have a link?

To date, there have been no effective vaccines for any strain of Coronavirus. Contrary to what was stated earlier, the effort has been worth it. SARS and MERS were contained fairly quickly. However 25% of all common colds are caused by a Coronavirus. The lost work and efficiency from colds is HUGE... very well worth an effort to find a vaccine.

I did err on the date. I thought the article was yesterday, the 23rd. It's actually dated 6/3.
Fauci offers an optimistic timeline for a coronavirus vaccine: a trial of 30,000 people next month, and 200 million doses by 2021

"We're going to start manufacturing doses of the vaccines way before we even know that the vaccine works," Fauci said. "We may know whether it's efficacious or not by maybe November, December. Which means that by that time, we hopefully would have close to 100 million doses. And by the beginning of 2021, we hope to have a couple of hundred million doses."

Also, here is what was said yesterday... which does not contradict the timeline above.

“We feel cautiously optimistic, based on the concerted effort and the fact we are taking financial risks — not risks to safety, not risks to the integrity of the science, but financial risk to be able to be ahead of the game — so that when, and I believe it will be when and not if, we get favorable candidates with good results, we will be able to make them available to the American public,” Fauci testified Tuesday. “It would put us at the end of this calendar year and the beginning of 2021.” Fauci: Coronavirus vaccine could be available by end of 2020
