Football Is Over, BBall time

then you missed about half of the season.

I keep up with the team and watch the games when I can, once Jan. hits I'll really start to keep up. However, football is the most important sport to me and it will always rule regardless of how the teams compare to each other. I'd rather watch a TN-S'miss football game than TN-Ohio State basketball.

What has the bball team won in the past few years to put them above the fball team's performance? You say mediocre non-BCS and I say 1-win and done SEC tourneys.

Most people here support the bball team. Are they free from being criticized for their performance this season? Amazing the 180 in people's comments with bball v fball when their results are eerily similar.

I've been watching UT bball for years and cheered for them in the very bad times. Thanks for implying otherwise though

That post wasn't directed at you first of all since you never said you could care less about UT basketball.

The difference is the football team is on a downward slide while the basketball program has been going in an opposite direction. Once again I never said basketball earned anything - although I'll take sweet-sixteen appearances over mediocre bowl games against Wisconsin where we go out unprepared like last year and embarass ourselves.

Congratulations on achieving status of "the average UT fan." Wear it proudly.

Not saying that is a bad thing - since I usually have considered football the be the most important... but to make an attempt to watch them just isn't what most fans strive fan I guess, regardless if it's during bowl season where we get to play in a no name bowl game. Over the past few year, as a UT fan, I have tried and got up for every basketball game like it is a football one.

Maybe the amount of games played in bball compared to football is one reason for lack of support and the atmosphere for football is hard to beat but i think the atmosphere in thompson will be great once sec games start. and when is the last time we even showed up to play for a bowl game? texas a &m? and that got us somewhere real good the next year. top 5 and straight to bottom.

I wasn't really debating the atmosphere inside TBA. Just the attitude of some Tennessee fans that don't give any respect at all to our basketball program. I think it's sad - but nothing you can really do about it with so many 1 sport UT fans.

I kind of feel the same way, Bruno. It's even worse when the Lady Vols are mentioned. That said, I could give a hoot about UT swim team, track team, etc.. So I can't really be too hard on peeps if they don't dig roundball.

Who cares about a meaningless bowl game with two average teams after just losing the SECCG yet again - bring on basketball.

And no it's not a tournament just a game in Nashville and they should be a decent team but not a team we shouldn't beat by 10+.

Football season is not over with until the recruitting season is done in Feb....

I got to watch C. Lee play all through high school. I was very surprised when he went to WKU as I thought he was a sure player in the Big 10. People in Indy have told me he could have gone to a number of schools but WKU got on to him early. He played on a high school state championship team, top class, that had 9 D 1 players on the roster and I watched them beat Oden and Conley when they were freshmen in the regionals. Oden and Conley won the next 3. Lee is tough. Still think the game that tells us a lot about the Tenn Bball team will be Xavier. I have had a passion for basketball all of my life, grew up in gyms, etc. typical hoosier ( I played in some of the gyms featured in that film). However, my bias is football, i.e. I LOVE THE VOLS and see everything through orange tinted lens. In bball I can be considerably more realistic, especially in evaluating teams and personnel. I have not seen WKU but they are usually very solid bball team. Tenn will have to beat them as I doubt they will beat selves.

I once had a guy tell me that the reason he can't stand basketball is you can turn on the last 2 minutes of the game and it tells you everything you need to know about the game. To that I replied, you will never be a basketball fan, then - because the fun is in the ride as much as the result!

I love football, I like basketball. I played football for half my life, and I never once played organized basketball. Why should I follow the basketball team as much as the football team? Because they are doing good? I root for the basketball team and do follow them but not near as much as I do the football team for the reasons above. Basketball holds nowhere near the position in my heart that football does. I'm not going to make basketball just as important as football is just because the footvols are in a downslide and the bball team is rising.

I might be a "typical vol fan" but I'm not an "average" fan.

I have no problem with that. I have problem with fans who say "who cares about basketball - we still have a bowl game left that is meaningless so screw the basketball team untill then..." or people like sudden impact above who stretch it to recruiting season...

I'm able to get up for both sports - as well as some others.. during football season I tell myself that basketball can't touch this but then when basketball season rolls around I'm saying the same thing about football at times. Some people are missing out not giving out basketball team a chance - and it's evident when some of people try to analyze our bball team.. lol...

UT fans who don't follow basketball are missing out bigtime. That's their issue, as far as I'm concerned.
