"Football as a war game: The annotated journals of General R.R. Neyland"

The listing on Amazon has it starting at $169, and it says it's leatherbound.

The PayPal link puts the book at $50. I'm going to take a wild guess and say the PayPal one isn't leatherbound.

Are they the same books? Because $50 I can swing. $170? Not so much.

It's probably the same. At one time the book was believed to be rare and going for much more. Many people don't know that they can get it so reasonably.

To answer your initial question, this book is both leather-bound and, if memory serves me correctly, gilt-edged. Purchasing it through normal used-book channels (Amazon, Alibris, Abebooks.com, etc.) will be a hit-or-miss proposition. And, as you observed, the prices are steep. The Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Football-As-A-War-Game-137345443024532/) was set up by Andy Kozar's son, who simply wanted to see that the book enjoyed as wide a readership as possible, at a much more reasonable price, among Tennessee fans. Check out all previous posts by Kozar in this thread.

In his latest post (6/8/2014), he stated that "Father's Day is soon! Football As A Wargame is available to be shipped, payment sent via PayPal. Please send email to akmarketingconsultant@earthlink.net, if interested in purchasing! Also, for Knoxville people, available at Long's Drug Store, west location! Thank you Hank Peck in all your efforts in helping us get this book in the hands of Tennessee football fans!

Help spreading the word about the availability of the book would be very appreciated!"

I paid $50 (just this past March). It's leather bound

Random bump, but has anyone got an idea on where to find this? I have looked for about 6 months on and off. I would like to get one for my grandfather.

When I clicked on the Facebook page that I cited above, it indicated that “this content isn't available right now.” I got essentially the same results when I looked on Amazon.com for used copies. It probably will resurface at some point if you scour the Internet long enough for used book sources, such as Amazon.com, Alibris, Abebooks, etc. However, given its limited edition status and the impressive standards to which it was published, it almost certainly will sell for a very pretty penny, and there is no telling how long it might take to track down a copy.

On the other hand, if you are only interested in reading, as opposed to purchasing or giving, a copy of this book, you can probably obtain one via inter-library loan.
