"Football as a war game: The annotated journals of General R.R. Neyland"

Got mine today.. Cathy at falcon stated that they are a publisher, not a retailer, so normally those books would go to the kozar family who would choose where to retail them. The extras they had were for promotions display... And since I called needing one for Christmas, they agreed to sell me one, paying royalties to the kozars of course. So some of us went outside the normal channels and they are now referring purchasers to the war game Facebook page. You should be able to get one in jan. Good luck all!

Man that sounds like a bit of a raw deal. Wish I had bought straight from you if I could have. Dad loved his copy this morning. Anyhow if this thread is any indication, then I would say volnation has a serious interest in the book.

I'll probably leave my copy in the shrinkwrap until I have time to really dig into it. It presents like a book that should retail for a lot more than $50. It looks like the kind of quality you might expect from Easton Press.

I bought a copy for my brother as a Christmas present years ago and the retail price, if memory serves me correctly, was then at least $75. This book is both a scholarly tour de force and, from a publisher's perspective, a work of art.

If memory serves me correctly, it stated that the Kozar family did not and would not receive royalties for copies sold by Falcon Press. I believe it also said that future profits from sale of Football as a War Game would largely be donated to the department within which Dr. Kozar had served as a faculty member. If my memory is flawed on this point, guys, feel free to correct as needed.

thanks, i did not mean to imply that monies were to be skimmed by the family, just that they should be the ones to manage it for its intended purpose

Oh and my favorite part of the book so far is when Bryant was overseas i believe, he ask a crowd of soldiers (paraphrasing) "are there any fellows from kentucky here!" and gets a cheer. "are there any of those bastards from Tennessee here?" and gets a roar... lol

If memory serves me correctly, be on the lookout for an anecdote where Neyland is warning Bobby Dodd of the folly of throwing interceptions. Something to the effect of "you better start running to the top of the stadium and throw yourself in the Tennessee River, because I will be hot on your heels, [presumably with the intent to inflict bodily harm]."

Met your father 2x. What a great guy and a great personality. Made you feel like he had known you for a long time just minutes after you met.

I trust that you haven't seen the physical product. This volume will make a fine addition to the library of any Tennessee fan, both for Dr. Kozar's scholarship and the wealth of information that he has excerpted and annotated from Neyland's journals, as well as the physical beauty of the book itself, with its leather binding and gilt-edged pages. Those qualities simply do not transfer to an e-book format.
