Fools Gold?

With the emergence of Mississippi St and Georgia, this league is ever
tougher than originally thought. Can Auburn remain undefeated more than
2 weeks?

League champ may have 5 or 6 losses by March.

I didn’t say that. What I’m saying is seeing us play like that shows that we have serious issues that indicate over the course of the season, we are more likely to be a 5-6 seed than a 1 or 2 seed. Now you run along Bernie.
If we end up a 5-6 seed something will have went terribly wrong for us.

I don’t sweat it much. Of course I want the higher seed, but I’d rather go in as a lower seed like UCLA did a few years back and make the final four than be a 1 or a 2 and lose in the sweet sixteen. It’s about making the tournament and then what you do after.

What was the story with Carter and the farmers?

Fuzzy memory here
Combines, tractors, Seed, fertilizer, feed, fuel, etc ……farmer buys a combine (150,000 dollar back then) and either put your land up or get a balloon note …Carter gets in and interest ballon’s up to 21 percent. Lose your farm or lose your equipment to pay for farm. Happened to thousands across the country unless your friend was Bert Lance!

Wow! That was truly sad. Especially considering that Carter was a farmer himself.

That 1 or 2 seed is imperative

In most cases sure, but there are times where teams that are seeded lower find the hot hand in the tournament. I’m not arguing that I wouldn’t want a high seed, but I’d also be pretty happy with a team that comes in seeded lower and turns it on in the tournament. I’d gladly trade a 1,2, or even 3 seed if it meant we make it to our first final four.

You’re omitting the source of inflation which was OPEC quadrupling oil prices which had an obvious ripple effect across all industries and created the runaway inflation. One can argue the federal reserve may have been overzealous in raising interest rates to combat inflation, but that wasn’t a policy implemented by Carter. Like always, presidents get too much credit for a good economy and too little for a bad one.

The Middle East hostage debacle fell directly on Carter’s shoulders along with pulling us out of the Olympics which I recall being hugely unpopular at the time. There are other things he directly decided to point out if you look harder.

Was our 14-0 start just fools gold making us think we are better than we really are? When you look back at the non conference schedule, yes Illinois was a good win, but none of the other teams we beat were that good. I’m afraid we’re more in line to be a 4th place SEC team and 3 or 4 seed in the tournament rather than a top seed Final Four contender.

We were overrated as #1 team but I still think we a solid contender for a Final Four. Issue is that our low scoring output egg has a way to catch up with us as it does every year in March Madness (last year may have been an exception, we just ran into a better team). That seems to be the bane of Rick Barnes.

Sadly, I think we are heading towards a 2 or 3 seed. In a lot of years, this team might be a 1 seed but SEC is too deep and we will have more losses. It would be nice to be a 1 seed for the first time in school history but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter.

What other 5 star recruit did he sign beside his son? Recruiting mattered. That last season was horrible. Agree his coaching was suspect.
Ed Gray from LA was a highly recruited guard. Jermaine Brown was highly recruited. He had groups of players who could have made the tournament with someone like Barnes at the helm. I think I actually mentioned something like that in another post
