Folks wanting Butch's head

I have been as critical as anyone about the sideline moves made by the staff but lets give credit where its due. This was a road game after a huge loss to rival, got punched in the gut on the first series then virtually ran them off the field. Are we back, don't know but I like what have seen the last 3 games.

Very well said...:hi:

Some fans complain because it looks like Georgia is not a very good team.

I guess the theme here is regardless of who we beat, its either luck, they have laid down and quit or the team is just bad. VN logic summed up perfectly.

Ha.. want to know who these fans are? UGA fans. Complete meltdown over in Athens. There is so much doubt about Richt, and the future over there.

Yes, VN had a mini- meltdown after Ark, and for some valid reasons. However - the Negavols need to have a look around the SEC. Auburn and UGA (both proud and consistently good programs) are WAAAAYYY in worse shape at this juncture than we are. Wouldn't swap places with either of those two right now.

It is important to remember that no one who has an input in the coaching decision making process is listening to those who who would want Jones replaced. You can't get around the few who have an agenda who would tear down the program for some twisted personal motive.

should vanish until next season after the first loss. They are just embarrassing themselves. It's an easy win out. The record will be 8-4 with a nice bowl. Possible 9 win season. Next year 10+ win season. It's nice to have Tennessee back.:pepper:

They're dummies. They'll be dummies next year, too. Don't care.

I get the concern about the W/L record for scalp fans and trolls. However, there must be some method that would give a comprehensive view of the a given team in relation to its talent, competition, schedule, etc to show the just how weak UT was over the last few years. Short-sighted views state that the W/L record is that measure, however, if you played a series of Alabama quality teams, that would not be too representable. I was thinking that the Sagarin or Pomeroy rating (sp) may be an indications, if they have them for college football. These are are more comprehensive summaries. Opinion - I would venture that we have moved a long ways from 2009-2011 years.

16-17 in 2 years plus. 7-14 SEC record.
numbers don't lie. He is pathetic....You must love living in mediocrity.

Butchna, Reader...

The post above is a negavol post. The problem is you guys don't see any different from someone showing frustration or questioning a play call than what doc posted.

Apologies - they have Sagarin and Pomeroy rating for football. For Sagarin, we were in the 60's, now at 18. I am not sure about Pomeroy rating.

Don't be "you guys"ing me! :nono: I go on a case by case basis.

That's what it takes now

Bar has been raised

SEC is the dominant force

Alabama and Florida have done it and we will have to do it as well

We will likely need to beat Bama twice if we ever win an SECC game in the future

You're not going to do that if you don't push for the best

For me--being back would be winning the East or having a shot to WIN the East each year.....that would require us being able to beat Fla, UGa, USCe, and Mizzou on a consistent basis.....with assumed wins against KY, and Candy each year....and occasionally winning the SEC would be being back....

Of course--we might lose to one of those first 4 teams and still win the East--but that's what it would mean for me.

Averaging 9-10 win seasons (excluding bowl or playoff games) would be back....

Stopping the Bama streak and playing them down to the wire and winning our fair share would be back....

NEVER losing by more than 10 points to ANYONE would be back......

ALWAYS playing in a Top tier bowl game would be back.....
:salute:

The eternal battle of the true fans vs the negavols rages on. This has been going on forever on VN. The mentality of you're either all in or all out. No middle ground. If you criticize, you are nega. If you praise, you're a sheep. Whichever way you go initially you better damn well never stray from that line or you are "hedging". No one is allowed to get caught up in the emotions of the moment and state anything out of elation or anger. There are without a doubt a few on here that are negative no matter what and can be annoying. There are others who seem to have knighted themselves defenders of the Butch faith and are equally tiresome. The point is regardless of what your opinion may be, you can count on someone sitting there at their keyboard itching to attack it.

Great post bud.

The OP is building a straw man argument as nobody has really called for Butch to be fired. Murdered maybe, but not fired.

Secondly, if we do end up 8-4 that's great, but it will be an extremely weak 8-4. Georgia is is only win we have that you can even argue was a "impressive team to beat". The sec east is monumentally bad right now and any fan taking an honest look at the season would have to agree that UT should be on their way to Atlanta, not Florida. But our coaching flat out sucked through the first five games. We should have had a 10-2 or even 11-1 season THIS year.

In my opinion we missed our only opportunity to beat Florida in the next few years. Mcelwaine will eat our lunch from here on out.

We will be back to being the perennial number 2 team in the east now that Spurrier and probably Richt are gone.

We missed the golden opportunity of a lifetime to be that team that the whole nation talks about. The opportunity was there and we muffed it.

10-2 is the floor of any decent expectation next year.

I hear it's gonna rain Saturday, if it does, I will not be at the game, I only attend if it's fair weather.

I've noticed that so many want to take every opportunity to down grade the Vols. Often disguised as a compliment, or just trying to be "real". I wish I was commited enough to aggravating others to type up pages and pages of dribble, just to aggravate a Vol fan.

So bring it on all you nonvols, give it your best shot, the time will come that all true Vol fans will be celebrating and all the Vol haters can watch.

And for those that say a Vol fan wants us to lose so they can be right, I don't believe that either, they may not believe in the team or the coaches, but a Vol fan still wants the team to win.

Go Vols!

Another "no one is calling for Butch to be fired" post. I guess you missed the 45 page thread about firing Butch. Thanks for your input.

I think Butch can coach us to being a dynasty program. If I thought under his coaching all we would ever do is compete for a low level bowl, I would call for his job today, time to hit the reset button and move on to the next guy. So don't say " I don't think he can win us national championships", and then say "don't fire him". That's the best reason to fire him, if he can't win us National Championships.

But, I think he is building a program that is gonna be recognized as a Dynasty.

Get to work Vols!

It seems to me that the "job" Butch has done isn't as much the issue as some of the specific things "in game", whether it be clock management, play calling or player fundamentals like picking up blitzes or DB's finding the ball when its in the air. Overall, I like Butch, but its hard to get a complete picture of how successful he will or will not be based just on what we are seeing. UT loses close games to solid teams like Bama and OU? Ok...no problem. We blow games against far lesser talented teams like Arky and UF? Not good. We blow out inferior teams like UK? Great, but we are supposed too. A lot of football left. If he finishes with 8 or 9 W's, then great...give him his props and watch him do his thing. A stumble against SC, Mizzou, or Vandy and the negas will live again...
