Wasn't much of an issue during the game winning play.....a redshirt freshman quarterback, behind 2 true freshmen on the OL, threw a touchdown pass to a true freshman, while running a play called by a first year coach on the sideline for his 4th game at Florida.

"Youth and inexperience" has always been exactly what is has been used for..............a poor excuse for losing games for other reasons.

It's very possible to win w youth. Proven every year somewhere.
Butch can't tho somewhat why you're told that

If you listen to his press conferences you know he is making excuses before the game is ever played. One of his go to is we have x numbers of players in our 2 deep who have never made a road trip in the SEC.

Well, Coach mac has shot himself in the foot. he'll never be able to use youth as an excuse.

as long as we keep losing, we can!!

so, we got that going for us!:)

You have to remember that those same UF players had the experience of flying on a plane the week before up to Lexington. We had not experienced that yet and hadn't had time to process it all before game time.

Seriously tho. I watched and waited the entire game for the collapse of that pathetic UF offensive line. Never happened. Jancek brought several safety and LB blitzes and they handle almost everything we threw at them.

Bottom line in my mind ... UF simply recruited better players and coached them up better ... and they whipped us again!

One of McElwain's famous quotes when he got the job was "You gotta understand this, I think I can win with my dog Clarabelle."

Player development?

Edit: I just want to say UT has a pretty damn good team. Like everyone has already stated, the Vols pretty much won the game.

I think Ark is a W for the vols, UGA and Bama are question marks. But, with Bama's problems on offense I think your chances are greater than ever.

After that, the Vols win out.

McElwain constantly spoke before and after the game about his excitement in coaching the younger players. He made one comment about "excited to take these young men in to battle, looking forward to seeing what they can do" etc.

Butch, on th other hand, always speaks of it as if it's a hindrance or ready-made excuse for poor performance.

IMHO, it is scheme related. Jones' first OL was loaded with NFL caliber players and took a step back. Sacks allowed basically doubled. Still not bad but was worse.

Of course we know how bad last year was. This year UT is tied for 11th in sacks allowed in spite of being 10th in pass attempts.... with one of the most mobile QB's in the SEC.

One thing tendency that I think I'm seeing is that Dobbs sets up in almost the same place on every pass attempt. The drop isn't varied. They don't roll the pocket often or roll out as often as you think they would. On top of that, Dobbs is prone to abandon the pocket rather than stepping into it.

Oh... if they can get their Fr ready to play OL well... then why can't Jones? I guess it isn't a developmental position for McElwain.

To be fair, we took all of our freshmen on the road against Kentucky, their first road trip, and they were AWFUL. If we had played like we did on the road against the Vols, the Vols would have beaten us by 50. There is an enormous difference in freshmen playing at home (especially O-line where it is all about communication) and playing the first road SEC game. Not trying to make excuses, but it is different.

One difference that I see in coaches, that several posters mentioned was that Butch does seem to look to youth as an excuse, McElwain revels in the challenge and projects a much more confident "let's bring it on" attitude that our players pick up on.

Appreciate the pity, but not a chance. This Tennessee team, that has enough talent, depth and experience as currently constituted to win 9 or 10 games, will have to feast on SCar, Ky and Vandy once again to just get bowl eligible. I hate it more than anybody, but I've seen this movie before and that's where we're headed with Butch Jones calling the shots.

Maybe a little off subject for this thread, but sadly, this will be the least talented UF team we will face for many years to come. With talent levels all else equal, we will continue to lose to UF if we don't stop getting out coached. I love what Butch has done to upgrade the talent level at our program but ya gots ta make good coaching decisions. You can no longer SIT on a lead in college football and go three and out because of stupid conservative play calling. You keep giving even a mediocre team the ball over and over and they will find a way to score points. And we've got a hand full of FIVE STAR RECEIVERS who are being grossly underutilized. That's inexcusable. If you were a big time receiver recruit, would YOU want to come to UT right now? Not even ONE receiver has a hundred yards total for the year and that's just crazy.

our quarter back was the leading receiver.
