Florida's motivation to win

Florida wins thot and they leap way ahead in the race for the East. Same for us.
If that's not motivation enough, regardless of streaks, then somebody ain't coaching right.

UT returned the same guys who lost 28-27 to Florida last year, right? A UT team that lost to a Florida team that was 3 games in to having an entirely new coaching staff, with entirely new systems, and a QB making his third career start. Florida lost VH3 on defense and John Bullard, but anyone who wanted to actually look, could clearly see that UF would replace them with great players.

So with both teams returning pretty much the same players, and UF with decidedly more continuity in year 2 under Mac, why was UT so overwhelmingly the favorite in the SECe?

Florida was not the better team last year but they had the better coach. UT gave that game away, literally. Tennessee was better last year and they are better this year, except maybe for the coaches which can make all the difference.

There's pressure in keeping a streak alive. Remember Kentucky and the energy we devoted to winning again and again every year. These gators are very, very unlikely to win the SEC, so with a bit of irony, this game (disregarding the streak) is more important to them than us. They have, last year being an exception, been unusually pretty rotten the last few years. This game gives them a meaning, to otherwise championshipless mediocre football. That's why it's so important, it's probably the only big game they actually have a chance in. That's why so much smack talk, they know they are going to get smacked around going forward. Hopefully this process begins Saturday.

If we don't beat Florida there is no way we win the east.

I disagree. I think Florida will be pretty good this year, unfortunately, and their SEC schedule is much easier to navigate than ours. If we can beat them and Georgia I see us being in the SEC Championship for sure barring any disastrous upsets on the back end of our schedule

I agree 110%. And taking the opposite approach, we seem to be over-hyped, and I hate to say that after our lousy 1st 3 games. I hate being the negative Nancy. We can't seem to put it together, especially the Oline. I know we're thin, but look who we played. Have we been too stressed out about the FL game? Have we spent too much time in the preseason reading the hype? Look at Urban Myer blowing people away. I was expecting a trickle of that earlier this month. Have we been playing vanilla ball waiting for FL, or are we really that bad, or bad coaching, or am I a nega-Vol? I hope I'm a realist. I just wanna beat the dog s*$t out of that group from Gainesville. There's not 1 person on this board who despises them worse than me! Sat a win would be good, a blow out would be special!

I actually think UT coaches did an outstanding job last year until the 4th quarter. They executed a trick play that resulted in a TD and another fake punt that I believe led to points as well. Without those tricks, Florida wins comfortably. Those two plays were the result of good coaching and game-planning.

However, we don't measure who is the better team based on opinion after the fact. We measure it based on the scoreboard, which means Florida was slightly better last year.

I think Florida is improved on defense this year, I think they'll emphasize tackling this year versus Dobbs and Hurd, and I think Florida is significantly improved on offense, even with Appleby.

I think this game will springboard ut if they prove themselves in this game and get through the next three games i have great optimism against the remaining schedule.
Butch has been saving that playbook for this game its put up or shut time for us. GBO
