Florida or Vandy

Just speaking for myself, I don't ever hope the Vols lose even if my posts are pessimistic about our chances. Too many times as a Vol fan I've expected great wins only to be disappointed. So when I see the posts claiming Vols will "boat race" or "curb stomp" team X when it's based on nothing but pure homerism, I try to balance it with some reality. I'd rather be wrong about predicting a loss than way wrong about predicting a huge win. We all fan differently.
You have some fans who are over the top in each direction. The reality is we aren't nearly as good as some think and we are also not nearly as bad as some think. For me, it is difficult to go into seemingly every game expecting to lose. This team, while having some disappointing outcomes, has shown IMO that they are capable of competing with any team they play. They just have to find a way to close the deal against the good teams, and that is on both the coaches and players.

The Vols' season is essentially over. I would like to see at least one team from the State make the CFP. Ergo, I would like to see Vandy win out. Memphis blew their chance this past weekend. Vandy is a better team than the Vols, so I can accept a loss to them. The Vols are a better team than the 'Gators, so a loss to them, even in the Swamp, is unpalatable.

It looks like the State of Texas will get 3 teams in ('horns, Tech and aTm). That is disgusting.

I just threw up in my mouth.

Unfortunately, we are accustomed to losing to UF. Losing to Vandy would be terrible for so many reasons and potentially impacts recruiting (especially in state). I despite UF, but at least historically for the past 40 years or so, that game is a toss up. Vandy has been the doormat of the SEC forever and we just can't lose to our little brother.
We have beat UF two of the last three years. Maybe you mean in Gainesville?

Florida will be inelligible for a bowl when they play us and half their players will have a foot outside the door. No excuse to lose that game.

This is the BEST time to beat Florida. Looks like they'll be ineligible for a bowl, players will be ready to go through the portal, and even more gasoline will be tossed into the burning dumpster when we play them. This is a golden opportunity we need to take advantage of. However, Vandy would be a more impressive win this season. This will be our highest rank win of the season, and to end the playoff hopes and dreams of baby brother would be huge. I would say that beating Florida in the Swamp would be bigger and matter more any other year. However, this year, beating Baby Brother in Knoxville and ending their hopes and dreams would be more meaningful than a win in The Swamp.

Right. People need to get over the name. Vanderbilt is a fantastic football team. Florida is a trainwreck.

I want to beat Florida because we've been cursed in Gainesville and we need to break that curse. It's important for the psychology of future matchups. We won't get a chance to win down there for 4 more years and, when we do, they won't be this bad.

If we lose to Vandy, that sucks, but this is their year. We'll go back to owning them soon enough. And we can get revenge next year (unlike Florida).

It's Florida. By a longshot. Breaking the Swamp curse is about the only meaningful step forward in the program that we can still accomplish this year. And it would be a big one, no matter how bad they are.
Said it better than I ever could Hoss

Because it is an overreaction based on emotions. That and I think some people would prefer being "right" to our team having success. Also, that comment was a little bit tongue in cheek. The same posters post the same things in any and every thread they come across. I mean, I get it Flip Daddy, you think our team is god awful and probably hope we lose to both Florida and Vandy so you can post incessantly about how you tried to tell everyone and nobody would listen to your sage wisdom.
The amount of people that can't differentiate between a prediction and a hope is fascinating. Just because someone does not blindly think this team is God's gift to college football and thinks it will lose does not mean they want it to.

Being capable is one thing, but actually doing it (winning) is another. They haven't actually done it this year.

If you've watched UT football for the last 40 years, you are accustomed to losing to them. Yes, we've had success lately, but overall we have lost 7 of the last 10; 11 of the last 15; 16 of the last 20; 18 of the last 25. So my point still stands and has nothing to do with in Gainesville.

When the same group of posters constantly post the same stuff in every thread, then come back any time we lose a game they said we would lose to remind everyone they predicted, it certainly gives that impression. Especially when those same people are conspicuously quiet after the games we win despite their prediction.

You are correct, they haven't done it against the good teams this year. People claiming we would be embarrassed by anyone we would potentially face in the very slim chance we make the playoffs either haven't paid attention or are just being way overdramatic. We have played at least two teams who will be very competitive in the playoffs and neither of them embarrassed us.

No one blindly believes this team is God's gift to college football

Florida.

1. actually a rival. this 2 year uptick Vandy doesn't mean squat.
2. going forward we play Vandy every year year, not Florida. so we will have our shot against Vandy if they do stay decent.
3. Break the streak in the Swamp, and actually establish a streak over them. especially important given that we won't play them every year.
4. regardless of the rivalry Florida will be more important in the long run. recruiting, better team, and so forth.
