There’s no such thing as an established pivot foot anymore. Players can pick up any foot at any time and not get called. I guess they’re doing that to favor more offense but I don’t like it.I have been watching this closely over the season. It seems to me to be ignored more this year than in the past which was pretty bad. This season backcourt players are being allowed to "wander and shuffle" as much as the inside big less than graceful football players in the wrong sport. I have tried to keep count of misses on all the games I suffer with and I would say that likely 3 possessions out of five walking could/should be called!
We do have to keep in mind though that the ferocity with which we defend the 3 point shots is what has our opponents shooting so poorly. We could guarantee that we essentially never foul a three point shooter, but if we give up 5-10 percentage points to keep a safer distance on the contest, it would probably be a net negative for us.About time. That used to be considered a cardinal sin, and we HAVE to lead the nation in that category. There's almost no way we don't, and no joke, I bet we've done it 20 times, this year. Mashack is the primary offender, too. Love his defense and hustle, but he's a freaking senior...you can't do that. We do it so much that even Jimmy Dykes made mention of it in the broadcast saying something to the effect of nearly every Tennessee game he's done, this year, has involved Tennessee fouling a 3-pt shooter, and Jimmy's done a lot of Tennessee games.
I don't disagree, necessarily, but I'm not sure it is solely our exclusive athletic ability to defend the 3 on an individual basis that has us in that position. We do have to keep in mind though that the ferocity with which we defend the 3 point shots is what has our opponents shooting so poorly. All this is true but #3 was KILLIN me. Like watching youtube videos of dudes chuckin up trick shots. Never seen so much horse manure.Mizzou’s definitely got some guys who can put the ball in the basket and they aggressively defend - they’re a good team. A few unusual things happened that kept this game closer IMO besides the stupid end of game foul fest that is becoming too much the norm in these SEC officiated games.
1. What the heck is happening this season where every few games we have 10+ turnovers?
2. I can’t ever recall giving up at least 3 offensive rebounds off missed free throws?
3. Mizzou had an unusually large number of lucky shots; banked 3’s, banked free throws, awkward falling down shots. They also got a lot of lucky bounces where loose balls found their hands.
4. Once again Mashack fouls a 3 point shooter and it appears CRB awarded him much fewer minutes in the second half as a result.
Yeah. We need to give ZZ and Igor a game off now and then. They came back strong!Eh, Mizzou actually shot worse in the 1st half than the second. They only shot 35% in the first half. All in all, they only scored 34 in the half. Generally, that is not too bad against a team that can shoot as well as the Tigers.
You are absolutely right about those turnovers, the eight free possessions allowed the Tigers to get some extra shots in. Combine that with 3-4 bunnies at the rim that we couldn't finish (some of those might as well be considered turnovers), and we gave up a lot offensively.
I totally agree that our offense was trash in the first half. I think that clouds the otherwise tolerable defensive effort - defense kept us in a game that could have been ugly. About the only criticism I have of our D is the lack of turnovers, but some of that has to be attributed to Mizzou being careful with the ball.
If we valued the ball the way Mizzou did, and if we hit 2-3 of the layups we missed, we win by 20.
ZZ and Milicic were strong. IM, especially contributed in a way that, if he does that more consistently, makes us tough to beat.
