While my boys are all VOL and bleed orange, my daughter doesn’t share our passion. I blame this on the fact that we live in Birmingham and my wife is a bammer

As luck would have it, her cross country event for this coming weekend was canceled so I’m planning on bringing her to the UT/Florida game. While my sons and I usually attend 2-3 games a year, it’s been a minute since I brought my daughter to Knoxville and I wanna make the trip stand out. She’s a sophomore in high school and currently her top choices for college are Alabama, Ole Miss, Notre Dame and UNC. I want UT added to the mix!

So here’s my question… I have my routine down for the boys, but I know that isn’t going to impress my daughter. What are some things you dads do when you bring your daughters to Knoxville?

Hope she knows if she goes to bama that you’re not paying for it and she’s out of the will.

If you're just trying to sell the school, take her into the business school, library, etc. If she likes nature, the Ijams Nature Park is nearby. There are tons of good restaurants downtown, Market Square, etc.

My wife doesn't give a rip about the games but enjoys the scenery and being down in Old City/downtown beforehand.

My teenage daughters love watching the band come down and the vol walk, then cruze farm ice cream on gay st after the game.

Earplugs both at the stadium and at home.

definitely want to sell her on the school. She’s a football girl but I know the atmosphere for the Florida game will check that box for her. She’s very smart and looking at pre-med or engineering majors. I didn’t attend UT so I’m not that familiar with the in and outs of campus life.

It just depends on how long you're here and what she likes to do. If you're just here Saturday, head to Market Square and Gay Street, then head over to campus through Worlds Fair Park. If she's a cross country girl the walking won't bother her.

If you're there on Friday, you can arrange for a tour of the engineering buildings led by a current engineering student.

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville - Tickle College of Engineering In-person Tours

The new Zeanah Engineering building is definitely worth seeing, it's the space used for freshmen classes and filled with lab space, wood shop, 3D printers, CNC machines, etc.

Ice Cream Challenge. Knoxville has some amazing Ice cream joints. Start with the creamery in South Knox, Killwins & Cruze Farm downtown, and if you stomach hasn't exploded hit up Freezo on Central.
