Florida game optimism

I'm by no means a sunshine pumper Vol, like some people on here, but i fully expect the Vols to either win or at least lose in a very close game. Fla is extremely overrated and now has a backup QB starting Saturday. Florida is mediocre at best on the line of scrimmage and this will also be a noon kickoff. Any one thinking the Vols will get blown out will be wrong imo. This is gonna be a low scoring, ugly game and i think the game will be decided by one score. I think the Vols really come to play and i hope they bring home a win.

I think the heat will play a big factor on our defense...if Florida starts out with a long sustained drive we will have to rotate our young guys in and out alot .....they are going to take advantage of that....may play a huge role in the rest of the game.

I have this picture of our linebacker blitzing untouched, hits their 2nd string QB and bounces off!

I would feel better with Frank's at QB but it will be a close game like it usually is.

I just want to go on record, this may be a long Saturday. I’m looking for improvement and some settling on position/player. It’s time to dial back on “let’s see if this combination looks better”

I think you might be right. Maybe this is the year that we catch some of the lucky breaks that the gators have enjoyed for many years against us. Call me crazy (and many of you will), but I just have a good feeling about this game. GOVOLS!!

I'm afraid our young DBs may get abused by UF's WRs. We need constant pressure on the QB to have a chance.

Oh, and not have 6 turnovers this time.

You have to love some Vol fans. Call for the coaches head one week and calling for a upset the next week. Florida back up QBs have been our undoing several times and I honestly don’t know what this weekends game tells us. I do believe there is enough talent on this team that if they play an error free game they can beat Florida. Given how they played against Ga State and that game is in Gainesville I’m taking the wait and see approach.

I just hope we dont come out and turn the ball over a gazillion times like we always seem to do in this game. Or give up 3 100 yard kick returns for a TD.

Worst of all would be to come out, dominate the first half, knock the 2nd string QB out and then let the third stringer come in and throw for 300 in the second half and lose by 3 tds.

If we can avoid all the above, we should have a chance to win.

According to many threads this week, no matter what we must stay positive. I plan on saying positive things like "that pick six was a beautiful pass by JG"

There is no doubt that Florida is beatable.
However, we have done nothing on defense to think we can stop them even with their backup QB.
He appears to make quicker and better decisions than Franks does.
We'll need to sack him 3+ times and harass him all game to have a chance on defense.
We haven't stopped the run very well...we haven't stopped the slants or play action passes very well.
Warrior is a HUGE disappointment at Safety.
I'd start Flowers and Jackson at Safety.
Shamberger is a liability at Nickel against the athletes of Florida.
Our DL get pushed around like they are on roller skates at times.
I think the noon KO will help us .

It's gonna be loud and we are gonna have to rush the ball for 150+ to have a chance to win.
JG will have to play the game of his life. Chaney will have to call the game of his life.
And the OL will have to have the game of their careers.

I'd give us a 20% chance of winning--since I'm an optimist and a VFL.

This is it. This is the game I look forward to more than any other, even more than Alabama(by a hair). I will miss this game being on the CBS but we will go down there and we will have something for Florida.

I agree and as I watched the UK/UF game I noticed UF just kept getting solid play through the 4th and actually looked stronger. They must have a good S&C program.

I am looking forward to watching the game, and I will be pulling for my Vols, with all I have in me. With that said, we have a snowball's chance in Hell of winning. There will be lots of QB sacks and turnovers. I do not expect JG to finish the game, on his feet. Florida may be overrated. But, whether it is due to youth, inexperience, or a talent deficit, they are still way better than us. I expect UF will beat us handily, and it will be settled, very early in the game.

We have gotten better each week. That much is clear. If the trend continues, we will be better Saturday but is that good enough to beat Florida at the swamp? Depends on what Florida team shows up.

I also fully expect our special teams to keep us in the game. That unit as a whole will make a couple big plays on Saturday. I also expect some wrinkles in the offense we haven’t seen yet, including more wildcat.

If the breaks truly go our way, who knows.
