Florida found their QB

Not even remotely. He loops his passes and makes his reads late. Kentucky helped him out with injuries in the secondary and bad play calling on offense. He’ll get better as time goes on but he’s not close to being better than Franks.

Guess you haven't heard? All coaches keep their best players on the bench as backups. This is especially true at QB. They never, ever play the best guy.

Trask broke his foot in practice last season after Franks got benched in the Mizzou loss. Franks played well the rest of the season. Trask also missed 2017 with an injury. We'll just have to see how he does next week. Hope both teams make it through with no serious injuries.

I don't think Florida wins that game with Franks. Hate he got hurt and wish him a speedy recovery but Trask was much more efficient and he was improvising like a seasoned veteran. All the little things that Frank couldn't execute suddenly got better with Trask. It is a small sample size but so far so good.

Well, it's not like he was freshman coming off the bench. Might not have a lot of starts, but he was a RS junior. I'd expect him to come in and run the offense well enough. The speed of the game certainly wouldn't be a shock to him given the athletes he has practiced against for over 3 years.

Trask seems intelligent and huge, with a big arm that can throw fast receivers open. For the life of me, I can't see what had Mullen starting Franks.
.

This has been a debate amongst Gator Nation for about 4 years now. Franks was starting mostly because of his experience. Trask has had two really untimely injuries in his career that set his development back, he broke a finger as a Freshman and he broke a foot last year. The injury as a Freshman gave Franks all of those game reps at a very young age. So then, even as the two appeared to be very close, Franks was getting the nod based off game experience, and that kept building on itself.

Another thing is, Franks is NOT the type of QB to look bad in practices, in fact, he’s mesmerizing in practice. I’ve been to several and witnessed this, the guy is a practice phenom. The weakness in his game has always been between the ears and the things he struggles with are very hard to replicate in practices; he can’t be hit, he can’t truly feel pressure, etc.

So it has been hard to hand Trask the job, all things considered. It’ll be fascinating to see how he does, I’m looking forward to it.

As well you should, Jaws.

Just curious, what's your earliest memory of Gator football?

I agree whole heartedly. I’m in trouble with my wife. I threw my beer and kicked the coffee table and let out a string of expletives when KY missed the field goal. Florida got out played all day and still won somehow. Lucky lucky lucky
😂 I feel you. I mean damn, how do they do it? Poor ky. They are the new UT. 💀

Thanks for the question, KC. I grew up in Jacksonville so so many of my earliest memories surround that game with Georgia. Pretending to be various UF players out in the yard at a young age with my brothers, being amazed and devastated at the same time by Herschel Walker’s greatness, I remember “Run Lindsey Run” play vividly, that’s Buck Belue to Lindsey Scott to beat Florida, I was 9 years old. My first ever college football game was at about 12 years old, my pop warner team was selling Coke’s at a Florida Georgia game in Jax and of course I was captivated. My Dad got season tickets when Steve Spurrier arrived and we’ve had them in the family ever since.

What’s your earlier memory of UT football?

They usually wait to they play us to find a backup better than starter. Dude stand tall in the pocket.
Makes pre-snap reads. Check.
Reads coverage post snap while making his drop or setting up. Check.
Gets the ball out to the right receiver quickly. Check.
Plays with confidence... no hesitation. Check.

WIsh we had one. Before Franks got hurt... I was thinking UT and UF were basically plagued by the same kind of QB.

Like most teams, Ky lost some focus after Franks went out & their DC didn’t have a feel for what Trask can do best. See 2001SECCG for the textbook definition of this.

KY secondary is bad. Too many starters out. WRs running wide open with no defenders within 10 yards of the receivers.

Now, I am not saying we will win, just that KY is getting no pressure on the QB and their coverage is non-existent.
They were still beating Fl. until Franks was injured. Kentucky played well enough to win and probably would have won if they had taken advantage of kicking a couple of field goal instead of running on 4th downs.

That sounds familiar

Everything went Trask way this game but why wasn't he starting? Possibly turnover prone? I always thought Franks gave the ball away under pressure, so could this guy maybe be worse? Seems like he threw 2 balls that could have been picked in less than a quarters playing time and making the option pitch when you are hit and going down is also a recipe for turnovers. It was successful last night but if thats your habit the ball is gonna be on the ground. He may turn out to be a great QB but I'm not gonna crown him based on 1 quarter. Go Vols!

A lot of people thought he beat out Franks but the one remaining factor was Franks experience per Mullen, he was QB before Mullen arrived (remember the dagger bomb at end of 2016 game). I may be wrong but think he Trask was going to replace Franks last year when Franks was going south but Trask got week day injury or something and Franks ultimately started and had a good game.
