Florida Football

Longhorns come to Gainesville this weekend. Will Napier have his team focused and pull off the upset against Texas?

Does a for sale sign get planted in Napier’s front yard on Sunday morning?

Will Napier even make it to Sunday morning?

I was listening to 92.9 The Game here in ATL this morning. They were talking about a rumor that FL had the backers to pay Napier's buyout and that Kiffin would listen last year. Strickland said no

Interesting. Kiffin will Kiffin, but how the heck do you have a clear shot to upgrade that much, and have it covered, and say no.

I bet Stricklin wouldn't consider it an upgrade. He'd be an interesting choice to be the fact of a premier program like UF.

Ole Miss is kind of in a "nothing to lose" position with him. They aren't a great football school historically and programs like that are more willing to roll the dice. And I'm sure even OM holds their nose at some of the stuff he says and does, and if course his act is funny when he's winning, immature and childish when he's losing.

Most Florida fans aren't buying it. They think the UAA planted the story. It makes no logical sense that the boosters would have been prepared to buyout Napier yet ultimately didn't. What changed? He won a few games he shouldn't have but the record was still lousy for Florida standards.

It makes more sense that they weren't willing to and still aren't—given that Napier is still the coach and every week he's asked about continuing to call plays and says he won't give it up. I honestly don't think their boosters like Hal Lewis, who has a large online presence, care that much about winning either.

Florida made 200 million in revenue last year, now most of it is spent on paper which is what Urban meant by "Where is the money going to come from? The money is spent." But there are A LOT of people being fed off that 200 million dollars who are seemingly satisfied with the way things are going. The AD just got an extension the day before the regular season kicked off in a Friday night news dump.

True. He has matured. But, not that much yet. Then again, Spurrier got away with it cause all he did was win. And he didn't have the early career gaffs like leaving in the middle of the night. Spurrier was a professional a**.

As long as they can be mediocre and questionable with occasional bursts of greatness, and that $200mil keeps the pigs happy, it is what it is and that money flow will keep lining pockets. It will take money away from those pockets to correct some things and get the program back to Spurrier and Myer standards.

Striklin should be fired if he doesn't consider it an upgrade. But he should have been fired after hiring two male coaches for women's teams that abused their players. Alas, here we are and somehow another abuser he hired won a championship.

Lane has a job where he's got boosters on board with buying players, he makes 9 million dollars a year and he gets automatically extended by a year every year he wins at least 7 regular season games. He has a low buyout relatively that allows him to be picky about choosing a new job. There probably are jobs he would take. I just doubt Florida would be one of them. And I think that has more with the narrative the AD won't hire him than anything.

Lane had two QBs this season, even though the starter struggled before being injured. He had depth at QB. Napier has no one behind Lagway should Lagway get injured. And the likelihood of that behind their offensive line seems high. Florida doesn't have the resources Lane does at Ole Miss, and who's to say it would change?

When the system is corrupt and everyone involved with the system is benefiting from the corruption there is little incentive to rock the boat. Meanwhile one of Florida's biggest donors came out last year after the Ben Sasse fiasco and said he would give no more money to UF. So, we will see how long it's sustainable. Every team in the league is making money off football though, even Kentucky.

You see the video of Kiffin and his daughter? I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon.

If I was Lane, I would go absolutely nowhere. He's the 10th highest paid coach in the country...at Ole Miss. It was unthinkable that they would/could pay a coach that kind of money just 4-5 years ago.

Every coach who makes more than him, with the exception of Mark Stoops (who has it made even more than Lane does) has way more stress and scrutiny on them. Each of those coaches work for administrations who would try and rein in his personality (at least to a degree). And unless you're talking Kirby Smart money, it isn't even that much more money. Brian Kelly, DeBoer, Norvell, Ryan Day, and Lincoln Riley make "only" $1m/year than Lane does. Look at the coaches who he makes more than...Heupel, James Franklin, Lanning, Venables, Cristobal.

Feels weird to even entertain that Miss has more resources than UF.

It's a travesty Brian Kelly makes that kind of money. Talk about raping a university. My wife can't even make a full 5 minutes into an LSU game anymore. It's incredibly ugly this year, and everyone had them touted as a title contender with the heisman front runner. Slow motion football on offense.

They don't...it's just that UF is a mess and unable to get the people with the resources on the same page at the moment. We had that problem for a long time too.
I'm not so sure the "right fit" coach is always out there when you want him to be. Surely no one can be so bad at making bad hires 3/4 times in a row. Maybe we could have done better on some hires, but I think all would have eventually been moved on until JH was doing the right thing at the right time. No diffrent than players. Hard to guage the fit till they're in house.
