Florida Football

There's so much competition for the recruits in Florida's footprint now it's ridiculous. Not just in your own state but big spenders from out-of-state swooping in and buying talent. So when there are a handful of schools that can pay more than you for the recruits in your footprint, it's not a great sign long-term.

There are lots of people in positions to know who say it will not be Kiffin. I've heard "personality" conflicts alleged but I think it has more to do with how much control over the program Lane would demand.

and the not hiring because of coach ”Personality” may be why they stay in the wilderness. I would go after Lame or Golesh but I don’t see them doing either one due to stubbornest.

Is Lamé’s personality that much worse than Spurrier? Or just different.

That's just people getting on their high horse. 90%+ of Florida fans would kill for Lane Kiffin.

Florida can not afford to keep Billy if the team finishes 4-8 or worse. Support will fall, recruiting will suffer and the portal may deplete their roster of talent.

Lane Train is probably playoff bound, and if that is the case, he isn't even picking up the phone. You don't take interviews during a playoff run. And UF can't wait around until after the playoffs to try and poach a sitting head coach.

With Mateer hurt, OM should now be favored in every game but UGA.

Spurrier coached under a completely different era at Florida. And remember Spurrier walked away from that job and when he came back to college, he took Lou Holtz's advice and went to South Carolina—Not Florida. Florida ended up with Urban but Urban left willingly too. Every other coach since has been fired. And Dan Mullen was trying to get fired himself.

"Personality" is a cover for he would want more control than we would be willing to give him. Last year Florida's biggest booster claimed he wouldn't support hiring Kiffin. I doubt much has changed. But he's all the Gator fans are talking about on their boards. It's insane to me how many don't want him.

I'm not saying he's going just that a large majority of FL fans would love it if he did.
No matter what they say on a message board.

Pete Thamel gaslighting Florida fans on Billy Napier.

“He was encouraged to bring in an offensive coordinator to take the load off of him, in particular,” Thamel said. “And he got some leverage at the end of the year, and he didn’t do it."

The leverage he had was the 25 million dollars he was owed if they fired him. He didn't just gain it at the end of the year. It's a false narrative. They never had any leverage to force him to give up play calling.

I think this is coming out now and not last year is because they want Florida fans to believe that the situation has changed now that Billy is losing and they have leverage over him again. They don't.

Kiffin is a world class a-hole. But seems these days like a healthy percentage of successful college coaches meet that standard.
I think you'd be hard-pressed to be a good high level CFB coach if you weren't an a-hole. You have to be an obsessive, meathead competitor who lives in a football bubble where nothing else truly comes onto your radar screen.

Gotta wonder what our record would look like with a similar schedule? Suspect we find out starting next season. Then again if we keep looking like a mash unit, a foretaste might be coming our way a tad earlier than expected.

What would our record look like with this schedule but Billy Napier as a coach?

Florida fans are so mad at Scott Stricklin right now and the UAA for extending him and announcing it in a Friday Night News dump the day before the season kicks off. What I believe though, and I've seen some Gator fans surmise this, is that Jeremy Foley is still the decision-maker behind the scenes and Stricklin is the fall guy when things go wrong. He's just the fundraising/public facing AD. That's why there's no accountability when he hires two coaches he has to fire who abused their players, a third credibly-accused of harassing female coeds (those screenshots exist) but exonerated incredibly after an internal investigation, and two football coaches whose terms will, in all likelihood, end up in disaster and costing Florida some serious coin to make go away. But that third guy won a championship, so all good, right?

I think most fans willingly believe whatever they are told that makes them feel good and reject any reality that makes them uncomfortable. But I also believe every fan has a breaking point and 6 win/yr teams don't typically have rabid fanbases who spend lots of money on tickets and merchandise.
