I was sitting with 7 guys after golf yesterday and the issue of the worst college football fans came up.

Everyone assumed it was Ohio State until 2 of the guys who'd been to the 07 BCS-CG said that without a doubt Florida fans were much worse than OSU fans and over all the worst they'd ever seen.

None of these guys had a dog in the fight (except for one Michigan man who hasn't seen a Florida game).

If it's true, what makes Gator fans so bad?

Florida fans are the "new money" fans in that their team only has tradition dating back 30 years or so. Also I feel like they have a large fan group that isn't affiliated with the university

There are good and bad in all fan bases. Florida's bad fans just seem to be worst than most. What part of winning games entitles the fan base to throw balloons full of piss and vandalize opposing teams cars?

Teams that win a lot = bad fans

Teams that lose a lot = good fans

Simple as that

I have to disagree and brag on our fan base for a second. I sold programs at Neyland when I was in high school. (98-99) Our fan base has been very welcoming to opposing teams, in my experience, with the exception of Florida. :bash:

There is also the slight issue that, as an opposing team fan, you risk having cups or balloons filled with urine thrown at you from some classless scumbag in ben hill griffin. This happened to my ex gf a few years ago, and when i brought it up to a coworker who was a florida grad he said "oh yeah, the piss thing. You gotta watch for that down there". It is an acknowleged issue at UF that is becoming another lovely gator tradition, as it has been going on for years. No other fans in the sec, or likely the country, are as awful and classless as Florida fans. End of discussion.

TennesseeRhett hit the nail on the head.

Florida fans are the worst fans because they're rude and violent. I've been to plenty of games at Neyland, and TN fans are welcoming and friendly. That doesn't mean there's not some trash talking in the stands or while tailgating, but when TN plays their rivals - Alabama for example - there's an atmosphere of respect for the rivalry and for the competition.

I will never see a game in Gainesville, because I don't want urine thrown on me, I don't want my car trashed, I don't want frozen oranges chucked at me or my windshield, I don't want beer bottles thrown at me - they're a bunch of redneck hoodlums -the worst kind.

Being cocky because your team wins is one thing, but with FL fans is far worse than just a bad attitude.

Winning will do that to people

There are several schools that have enjoyed winning in the sec but none of their fans have come close to the disgusting antics of the fl faithfull.

Well...except that silly bammer that poisened some tree's.

Jorts And the numerous bandwagon fans they have

I do know that no matter where I seem to be...OSU fans are always there...even if the team is nowhere near the city/game that I am. And they are always chanting O...HI...O and singing Hang on Sloopy in every bar and on every street corner. So they rank as the worst IMO. UF fans are an extremely close second if not tied for the lead.

Jealousy, envy.

Being the loser to another team and 2 of it's coaches with as much regularity as we have doesn't help. Piss balloons, jorts, mullets, etc are just icing on the cake.

Chanting and singing Hang on Sloopy vs. throwing balloons filled with piss.........

I'd say the latter is much worse.

You've obviously not spent much time around Vandie fans. As a VOL fan living in Nashville (where we are the vast majority), I can assure you 'door-mat fans are putrid in every way...yet they cash those SEC checks!
It's sports welfare, yet all their fans do is hate on UT & all the other "lesser academic" schools.

I have been to every SEC campus for away games except for uf. Have never had any issues. Always been a fun time.

Never plan on going to gainesville...figure that gutting gators if they threw piss on me would probably ruin the visit. :)

Best example for me, few years ago my son's baseball team had dad's that were alumni of UT (me), Bama, Auburn, LSU, UGA, and uf. Kinda cool in Texas!

Well, within about 3 weeks the gator had alienated the other dads with his obnoxious uf nonsense. He was so bad that even the Bama-Auburn dads would talk to avoid him.

A few years ago some buddies and I would make the trip over to K-ville from Nashville every home game in a Winnebago that was painted orange and white and called the Tenn-e-bago. It was really great for tail gaiting.

On one trip we had set up next to a group of Gator fans who were super nice. At one point one of them did an ice run for us. So they hung out with us and watched ESPN and drank beer. We even let them use the bathroom in the Tenn-e-bago. My buddies went looking for something and I was left manning the bratwursts.

One of our neighbors "friends" came in and without asking took a beer out of my cooler and started talking to his friends. He was a typical punk and acting like a jerk. When he said "Who are these (*^^$*s?" Referring to our tailgait set up. I told him to be nice, that he was in my area drinking my beer and being a horses ass. He actually started to pull back to punch me when his buddy grabbed his arm and sent him on his way.

Of the five FLa fans only one was a psychotic A** H***. So thats just 20% in my experience. I'm sure it's a much higher percentile at home.
