Again, Bray has played USCe, Memphis, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, North Carolina, Montana, and Cincinnati. The best defense he has faced in those games is UNC (he didn't start against USCe).
The outcome? A loss. If UT doesn't have a successful running game in Bray's first "true" SEC road start (comparing Vandy to UF is laughable), UT will lose.
UNC had an extremely stout defense. They also played a version of the passing game that was much inferior to what it is today. If you watched that game you should be aware of how many missed calls were in that game--enough for the SEC ref crew that watched to say "were there mistakes? Well, there could have been." That's about as close to a chastisement as you're going to get in the reffing world. I'd say your "well they lost to UNC" example really isn't a good one.
I'm not advocating not having a run game. I think UT will be able to run the ball saturday after they stretch the defense, I'm simply explaining why UT fans think they way they do.
